Is it just me or on the subject of tariffs, are people missing the subtle point that he made that tariffs are a powerful negotiating tool? He doesn't intend to apply 2,000% tariffs. That's a negotiating tool to use leverage to get a better deal for the American people and companies that the economy and workforce rely on. And, of course, arguably far more valuable and consequential than just getting money from other nations is creating the conditions in which companies will build their foundations in the United States. When foreign governments subsidize scorched-earth undercutting of domestic companies, while tariffing USA astronomically, yes-- tariffs become an incredibly valuable negotiating tool to protect the prosperity of Americans. And people forget that the US economy is still a powerhouse with immense leverage, which makes this tactic viable. When Americans are prosperous, they like to live well, and they are willing to invest in quality of life, Which means they buy products more than countries with larger populations. That's a market nobody wants to be excluded from.
It's a worthless negotiating tool when the companies and countries you are negotiating with know that there is no teeth to your threats. A threat is only a good negotiating tool if the person you are negotiating with believes what you are threatening them with is possible.
He LITERALLY APPLIED tariffs in his useless term, and it was a DISASTER. So everything you and HE are talking about is not hypothetical. He really is a know-nothing idiot.
People are old thinkers here. They miss the point or ignore the point that he is going to incentivize people doing business here. Its like that point just keeps getting ignored. If he incentivizes people to come and do business here in the USA by dropping the corporate tax rates to 15% then that is more than most companies make in profits after paying for labor and the cost of making their products. Its like he is giving them the money to expand. And by expanding and even coming back here job growth grows and so does the US economy. I dont know why people refuse to hear ALL of his points. I think its because they just hear their favorite talker say "Tariffs are bad and Trump is going to destroy things." Which they are dead wrong.
@abeeftec Exactly. Thank you. People close their brain to the bulk of what he's actually saying so that they can only listen to bits that they feel they can argue with. But they have to be very careful to not hear any context that would conflict with their argument. It's important to maintain cognitive dissonance for this process.
The Bloomberg News interview between Editor-in-Chief John Micklethwait and President Trump was challenging to watch, primarily due to Micklethwait's frequent interruptions and overtly disrespectful demeanor. Rather than fostering a productive exchange, Micklethwait seemed intent on cutting off the President mid-response, preventing him from delivering coherent answers. This approach disrupted the flow of the conversation and came across as unnecessarily antagonistic. Even when President Trump provided specifics about how certain negotiations yielded net benefits, Micklethwait appeared unwilling to acknowledge them, opting instead to move on dismissively. This blatant lack of decorum felt unprofessional and, at times, cringeworthy, rendering the interview nearly unbearable. By contrast, President Trump’s willingness to engage in such an interview and share insights into his strategies stands in stark opposition to candidate Kamala Harris, who had repeatedly avoided similar situations. Harris’s reluctance to participate suggests a lack of economic knowledge, raising questions about her preparedness for critical discussions.
The hole in the logic with tariffs forcing companies to building plants in the United States is that the cost of labor in the U.S., and the cost of building the plants, and the cost of manufacturing in the U.S. is extremely high compared to a country like Mexico. So the cost of goods is STILL GOING TO INCREASE for the American consumer. His logic on tariffs is very flawed.
This is where YOU are wrong because you dont know the plan Trump has to incentivize corps to come back. You are thinking like everyone does on tariffs from history. In the past they put tariffs on and had no incentives so it being cheaper in other countries to build made them go there. But if you give tax cuts to corporations and NOT executive salaries the corporations will be able to use more of their profits for growth. The way we do it NOW, if he JUST tariffed you would be correct. Its like my GF when I told her to stop working for the airline and just take care of her grandmother and she would get about 5 years worth of pay at 9K a month from her father and his brothers. She said, " I cant because of this and that and this and that and this and that." I simply said, "IF YOU STOP WORKING FOR THE AIRLINE ALL THOSE THINGS YOU MENTIONED WILL BE MOOT! But you wont listen because all you can see is all the things you are doing right now and feel you dont have the time. But if you stopped working for the airline and give them notice and then take care of your grandmother you wont have to worry about all those things you are worried about." It is the same with Trumps plan. Cut the corporate tax rate which does NOT significantly cut revenue because executives still have to pay taxes on salaries and dont get write offs and the corps still have to match the federal income tax of every employee they have. So why not allow the corps to not be taxed into low profits? They get write offs sure but those write offs are NOT loopholes. They are based on the money they pay out to create their product. And they have to do that in other countries as well. Giving corps incentive to come back to the US creates jobs which creates more federal revenue which PAYS for the tariffs. In fact it overpays for them. Jim Cramer had to admit right before Covid hit that we had the best economy on record and there was no way to deny the numbers. Then covid hit and they trashed his economic success which was about to start moving into overdrive and by his second term he would have had no deficit and the debt would eventually start to get paid down. SO many people are using old thinking on this and dont understand what Trump plans to do.
He doesnt care about the American consumer and all that tarrif bs is just a distraction from the real goal of getting rid of income taxes for him and his rich cronies.

If you're able to shift the automobile & machinery manufacturing from EU to US I don't think it would rise prices over long term as workers would get better compensated due to high skilled jobs moving in and over long-term you'll definitely afford it. @@colindant3410 No, he says he thinks if the tariffs are high enough, the companies that we import from will move to domestic manufacturing. It also doesn't consider that, even IF new manufacturing plants were to be made for those products (for things like washers, which are a relevant historical example), the US doesn't necessarily have the natural resources to produce those things at the scale that would be necessary, in turn resulting in still needing to import the resources anyways. In that situation, demand would outpace the supply and cause prices to rise anyways, and the cost of needing to produce new factories would need to be paid for, both of which result in the consumer spending more on the same product. He also claims it would spur more jobs, but in the face of automation as well as considering the jobs LOST from removing the import/exporting demand, it would result in FEWER jobs domestically. @@davidkruse4030 Totally agree! This is a cautionary tale about the importance of paying attention in your Econ 101 (Trump obviously did not). Tariffs will work ONLY if other countries will not retaliate in kind (e.g., see Smoot-Hawley Tariff Act of 1930 and the Great Depression). Furthermore, if you impose tariffs on Chinese goods, then the Chinese manufacturers simply move their plants to other low cost countries (e.g., Vietnam, Malaysia, Mexico..etc.). At the end, you have to impose 100% tariffs on pretty much every country in the world. Even then, it might not be enough to bring the manufacturing jobs back. Deficits are not necessarily bad. When the government increases spending, it can benefit local industries and communities. A deficit can be positive if government spending is directed towards sectors like construction, automotive, technology, and agriculture, particularly those owned by local companies.
What detail did he go into? He says something like "we're going to bring companies back", without any follow-through on HOW he would accomplish this. Doesn't name a single company that he's talking about. The fact is we're in a global economy, and multinational corporations while being based in one country, do business across the entire world. There is no "bringing companies back". They will manufacture products where it makes sense to do so. If it's much less expensive to manufacture products in China, or Malasia, or Taiwan, global companies are going to do that. Applying tariffs to companies who manufacture in countries with a more affordable, better manufacturing infrastructure will only increase the costs of goods to U.S. consumers. The companies don't pay those tariffs... YOU DO.
He did explain this about how tariffs work, he says they will bring companies from overseas back into the country as they can't sell their goods unless they are within America. Countries don't pay the the tariff if they produce their product within America, so the high tariff force business to set up in the US otherwise they can't sell any products. Do you understand his point?
@@robertstrong6317 Of course, it's easily understood, it's just wrong, ask any economist how flawed the thinking is. Look at a company like BYD, which is his big example of a company that is looking to build an EV manufacturing plant in Mexico. They are a Chinese automaker. They are looking to set up in Mexico or similar country because of the cheap labor, and the incentives given by that country to build a plant there and boost their economy and standard of living, create good paying jobs. Those incentives do not exist in the U.S. for a Chinese company. BYD isn't going to set up in the States, it's too expensive to hire a workforce, to build a factory. Their product would not sell because they would not be able to compete with U.S. automakers on price. If you threaten huge tariffs before they build their plant, showing your hand before the game even starts, the result is they won't build their plant in Mexico, they will go set up elsewhere, and forget about the U.S. market, and just sell cars in Europe and India. So no, the threat of high tariffs does not "force" a company to set up in the U.S., because the cost of doing business in the States is too high. The end result is no plants in the U.S., no products sold in the U.S. market, less competition driving down the price of goods for consumers. It's a recipe for consumers paying more for goods, not less.

@@hankkingsley9183 Correct. These people think this idiot if playing 3D chess when in actual reality, he's playing with his choo-choo set!
I didn’t see this interview before. If I had seen it, I would have known he was going to win big. And yeah, he just won big. No brainer!

Have you watched the interview he did with Joe Rogan? It’s good too.
"I went to him and I said Shinzo" 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
What was the topic again?
Pretty underrated interview IMO
The hole in the logic with tariffs forcing companies to building plants in the United States is that the cost of labor in the U.S., and the cost of building the plants, and the cost of manufacturing in the U.S. is extremely high compared to a country like Mexico. So the cost of goods is STILL GOING TO INCREASE for the American consumer. His logic on tariffs is very flawed.
@@hankkingsley9183 YES THANK YOU! Finally someone speaking facts in this comment section full of people praising trump without question
She said, " I cant because of this and that and this and that and this and that."
I simply said, "IF YOU STOP WORKING FOR THE AIRLINE ALL THOSE THINGS YOU MENTIONED WILL BE MOOT! But you wont listen because all you can see is all the things you are doing right now and feel you dont have the time. But if you stopped working for the airline and give them notice and then take care of your grandmother you wont have to worry about all those things you are worried about."
It is the same with Trumps plan.

How is Europe able to manufacture cheaply compared to US? If you're able to shift the automobile & machinery manufacturing from EU to US I don't think it would rise prices over long term as workers would get better compensated due to high skilled jobs moving in and over long-term you'll definitely afford it. Of course Mexico, China & India have such low labour costs you can't compete but the target should be to ensure manufacturing of high value products from EU & Japan move in to US.
To all of these tariff experts- are you all happy with how expensive everything has gotten? The past leaders have failed us. I’ll take my chances with Trump over the other incompetents out there.

And we also saw the price of domestically produced washers didn't actually come down to the expected levels, but actually raised to the levels around foreign washers. Thats why I think its a waste to even encourage manufacturing in the states.

LOL John Deere said Trumps a liar. He didn't stop anything.
Host says tariffs will just drive up prices (like a national sales tax). That would be true if nothing else changes.
Trump says tariffs give foreign companies an incentive to move to America and build things here (where they'll avoid tariffs).
Host doesn't seem to "get" this idea about incentives and movement.
The tariffs make logical sense. Too many companies have been sending their manufacturing jobs overseas to cut costs. Time to bring the jobs back!
Why would you want to add more low value products back into the U.S economy? Wouldn’t you rather have U.S make really high quality final stage stuff and leave all the trivial manufacturing to a cheap country? Tariffs make no sense at all.
Trump doesnt seem to take into account that foreign products that are better will either become extremely expensive or wont be available at all. People dont by a BMW or a Mercedes because they need a car but because they want that specific car. The companies will gladly stay out of America and focus on other really growing places like Asia. His plan will backfire imo.
Biden administration has already started this with there buy back American plan. Look it up… 🤦♀️

President Trump finally explained the tariff strategy so well I finally got it. He was not as rushed to reply like in most interviews, he got this point through. Well done to the interviewer. Yup he explained it. It won’t work. The interviewer called him out.
@@davidkruse4030 huh??
If you think I-Phone is expensive right now, wait until it is 100% made in the USA. Trump obviously did not understand the idea of "comparative advantage." David Ricardo would roll over in his grave.
Delusional
@@oceanrem6531 successful experience (nearly all of the most successful business moguls in the U.S. echo Trump here) trumps "Econ 101" -- textbook theory only works with specific conditions. The most successful businessmen change the conditions so that the "theory" works, hence why they are successful and your Econ professor is teaching.
Tariffs will stop people from buying cheap foreign goods. We dont need cheap Chinese or india Guatemala etc.
So they have to buy more expensive American goods instead, expect the price of clothing and food to increase which won't be good for the poorest Americans
Prices will increase, regardless.

While I don't support Trump because he's just blabbering and lying, I don't support false facts purely to discredit him too. Deficits are not necessarily bad. When the government increases spending, it can benefit local industries and communities. A deficit can be positive if government spending is directed towards sectors like construction, automotive, technology, and agriculture, particularly those owned by local companies.
Congratulations on your career 😂😂😂
This man is intelligent and knows his stuff, can Kamala go that deep in detail into the economy?
However if company's when forced to set up in America can produce affordable goods, I don't know..
@robertstrong6317 is simply impossible. Unless the minimum wage is 1 buck.
Be blessed with Trump, most countries don't have a clue about anything about financial stuff, America,s people is so critical about everything,I am not America, and it makes no sense that people hate their own people.Critical hateful because of politic, and why do you aloud other countries treated your president badly
