I assure you if you go full on into the MUCH harder jazz/fusion stuff, you may lose some rock touch. That said, wow are you a more capable player if you do that. And that "rock feel" comes back really quickly

HI ROBERT! I FOUND THIS INFO ON IT. VIDEO OF JULIAN LAGE PLAYING ONE. Julian Lage gives this large dual humbucker archtop a spin. The Trini Lopez Deluxe model was based off the Barney Kessel model and features an asymmetrical, Fender-like headstocks and diamond-shaped soundholes and fretboard inlays. Only 302 of these were made from the time it was introduced in '64 until it was discontinued in '70.
Been a fan since hearing Frank Gambale Live! all those years ago. Compositionally speaking, Thinking Out Loud remains my favorite album. Thanks for sharing!

Here’s what I got: The technique was first used and developed by jazz guitarists Les Paul, Chet Atkins, Tal Farlow and Barney Kessel in the 1950s, as well as rock guitarists Jan Akkerman, Ritchie Blackmore and Steve Hackett in the 1970s.

Funny how people who stumble on certain techniques sometimes wind up not being the ones to make it popular. Eddie Van Halen and the tapping is another example. Someone, an Italian guitarist I think, back in the 50's was tapping. Even Frank Zappa did it before Van Halen had an album out. Nevertheless still grateful for the origins of these techniques.

Frank’s fretting hand looks so small and compact, but his fretboard knowledge and sense of economy means he’s constantly covering more fretboard than I ever expect.
I do love this guitar. It's funny that all the Gibson vintage collectors and books consider this guitar the "least" collectable of the vintage Gibson. I'm flabbergasted as to why...I truly LOVE this guitar. It's the only black one as far as I know! FG
2 Aussies that REALLY KNOW how to change over chords no matter how complex, Frank Gambale and Bret Garsed. To the untrained ear, they just look for all the speed techniques, that's great, and a lot of players are really getting technique down in todays high tech world, BUT the brain power needed to freely solo over changes so well, is just on another level all together. Very few can ad lib like this.
Alex is from Bristol in the UK where I also lived for 13 years. He has a slight Bristol accent but it's not as pronounced as many other born and bred Bristolians.

That's just killer playing by Mr.Gambale.... didn't know he'd been listening to G.B. (George Benson) so much, but you can really heard the jazz in his playing. Love that tasty clean tone and letting the notes breath a bit in-between amazing sweeps and runs. Top marks.....
That Trini Lopez model Gibson is a LOT like a 1964 Barney Kessel model I played for several years. Other than the 6 on a side tuners and "cat eye" F holes everything seems the same. Both were underrated models IMO. Although I'm really happy with my Carvin HF2S hollowbody w/out any f holes.
I love listening to this guy play. The melody cord picking style is something I should have tried a long long time ago. Makes it easy to hit the notes fast and on time. Beautiful

That Trini Lopez model Gibson is a LOT like a 1964 Barney Kessel model I played for several years. Other than the 6 on a side tuners and "cat eye" F holes everything seems the same. Both were underrated models IMO. Although I'm really happy with my Carvin HF2S hollowbody w/out any f holes.
I don't even wanna know the price of these awesome guitars...
The other Trini Lopez Gibson has an es-335 semi hollow body with the cat eye sound holes as well. That's the model I've seen him perform with mostly.
At first glance I thought it was a Barney Kessel model.

I love listening to this guy play. The melody cord picking style is something I should have tried a long long time ago. Makes it easy to hit the notes fast and on time. Beautiful
