    Something that is worth a note that I don't see enough people in the design community stating. We are humans we have biases and we do not think empirically. Getting into the empirics of colour theory and using case studies and reference groups is vital to choosing your creative path.

    Re 16:47 purple, the reason for the association with royalty comes from the Byzantine Empire's tradition when a child was born to parents bearing the imperial purple described by Anna Comnena, a Byzantine princess and author of the Alexiad. Before Pantene and Photoshop, back in the days of old Rome and Byzantium the purple dye obtained from sea snails used to color the cloth. This was so expensive it became s a status symbol. In the USA is also considered a regal and elegant color, especially within the dress choices for church wear within the African American communities

    2:02 ngl, would’ve went for a light green with a very pale, low saturated yellow border. I feel like the light color would keep the audience grounded, and green gives it that natural feel which people want in their beauty products. The yellow would be used to contrast the green and the bg for her would also be green since the yellow is providing contrast

    Not saying you're wrong about color psychology, but you showed some ugly designs as an example of good and effective design. Sometimes you have to take a step back from thinking too professionally. The average person will look at it and say it's ugly and no matter what the psychology says, it will repulse them. The yellow and green and blue and orange literally made my eyes feel uncomfortable. Maybe psychology is why we get such ugly websites and we can't figure out why.

Then, how to clearly decide on a shade of blue, because perfectionism is killing when it comes to choosing single shade among so many ones. All seem kinda appealing and right, thus getting me stuck for hours and hours thinking and at the end of the day, getting no result.

    Hey, minor nitpick here with the section at 4:07
    While it is true that red and green objects are more stimulating than blue ones, it's the reverse for light. That's because daylight has a lot of blue in it and shifts toward red on sundown. Being in a room illuminated with nothing but red light (as seen in the section) makes people sleepy, being in a room illuminated by white light and containing lots of red objects is stimulating.

    Regarding color psychology: while denying the existence of it is foolish, but also I _feel_ that it is too simplistic to be true. It is almost like astrology and crystal healing, how it is commonly used. If we could get access to the website of a world known brand, we could create an experiment where colors are randomly selected and we could measure the click-through rates, the "click through and actually do something" rates, we could also filter it by country and so on. That would be collection of real data. But I don't think that "Yellow means energetic" holds up in every context.

    • @deeplow4492
      @deeplow4492 Год назад

      i agree, psychological stuff is often pretty murky territory and can get into weird generalizations. it also seems weird to think of color design in terms of (practically) manipulating the viewer into some sensations and actions instead of a general artistic approach.

    • @SatoriGraphics
      @SatoriGraphics  Год назад

      Welcome to marketing and graphic design. It is what it is.
      Yes it's subjective, however this stuff works on a majority, hence why large scale organisations within branding and marketing use it. Corporate graphic design is akin to a creative science rather than art. Those who know, know.

    • @wmurd
      @wmurd Год назад +1

      @@SatoriGraphics Didn’t you think that certain colors and color schemes work in certain areas just because it’s common this area using this color? Not because “psychologically” human brain associates blue with washing powder because of “freshness”, but because people marketing this product *think* that human will associate blue with “clean” (because some hack once suggested so) and use it and only *then* people start to see “blue” = “clean” = “washing powder”. Oh, I guess orange pack for washing powder will never succeed - because psychologically it means action! Who’s Tide once again?
      So similarly western people think “red” = “Christmas”, not because it is “cool” and “wintery” (or even “fireplace”), no. Because Coke made them
      To make it easy, imagine a view: nature, deep dark blue mountains, various aggressively vibrant greens, vibrant blue with high contrast white clouds, contrasting vibrant red flowers and, say, house roofs. It should be *psychologically* not calming, but we now it is.
      To sum up - psychology of color started working **only** because of the existence concept of “psychology of color”

    Watching a video when I should be sleeping but the "Excercise add" at the beggining is hard to pick a best color scheme for without having more info on their branding. The ywllowy orange is definetly the best baseline pick for pupped up change your life now kind of energy. The red and purple though I think also works pretty well for that, though I'd personally think it'd fit more with a gym where the goal is to get swole. bunch of people going witht he pure intent of getting stronger. the green one by contrast I think would work best as a family center kind of gym. a calmer place focusted on overall health and well being. the kind of gym that is probably over monitized and has a convinient smoothie shop inside and probably a mini daycare.

      @@SatoriGraphics Yes, I absolutely loved it because it contains a lot of information about color and no one provided this much amount of information that too for free. Thank you once again for the amazing video♥️

    Ok Before I continue to watch this video in 2020 I figured out the color theme of my emotions so I will put them donw here since you HIT both Yellow and Green very closely to how I see things.
    Yellow : The color of Creativity and Protection
    Orange: The color of Embrace and Caution
    Red: The color of Passion and Embrace
    Green: The color of Life and Control
    Maroon: The color of Family and Blood
    Blue: The color of destiny and despair
    Violet: The color chaos and rarity
    Indigo: The color of youthfulness and Royalty
    Pink: The color of love and obsession
    White: The color of knowldge
    Black: The color of control
    When colors on the triangle wheel are put at there heights peek we call them pure chaotic colors
    When colors set to white to pastel we call them passage and safe colors
    When colors set to Black into darker colors we call those Raw Colors.
    This is how I see the world as an artist and Illustrator.

    Very useful video. I learned last year how much you can screw up someone's work when people don't think about printing techniques. It's nice to pick gorgeous palettes, but are they printable? An agency didn't consider that and suggested to our CEO to change our color to an impossible color to print. Then what?! You have to find a way to approach the closer to that, but it's a hassle... I had to correct this

    Talking about psychology, people would like to see two 15 min videos rather than a single 30 min video lol, it would've been better if you split the video in 2 parts, awesome content as always 💪
