They look great, but unfortunately none of these are going to make production. There are loads of amazing concepts that manufacturers make to get some buzz, but very rarely, if ever, do they make production without some massive downgrades. Just something to remember for everyone, concepts are easy, but turning that into a profitable and practical mass-produced vehicle is a whole different ball game.

I really like the interior design of the skysphere interior (except for the analog clock). It is so clean and scifi spaceship looking. Not a fan of the gesture controlls though because they would probably be pretty hit and miss or trigger when you did not intend to and even in full autonomy mode I would still like to be able to take over seemlessly rather than having to wait for the steering wheel and pedals to emerge.

    • @boatoflol
      @boatoflol Год назад +1

Steering Wheel should fully deploy in 2 seconds. You might need the wheel RIGHT NOW! It can take its time folding away. All and all, the version in the AUDI RSQ from "I, Robot" (2004), works best to me. It deploys in less than a second and folds away about as fast.

My d2 a8 has maybe 80% of the little servo motors that adjust things like seat and steering wheel position still work, (great for an almost 25yr old frauline) in my case the car is still comfortable and functional. the steering wheel still moves in and out but no longer up or down, the seat adjustment works except for the drivers side headrest and the passenger seatbelt height adjustment. This dosent effect the functionality of the car, i wonder however what will happen with this new fangled thing if the little motor for deploying the steering wheel or opening the doors fails. are you essentially left with a brick? are there going to be manual overrides? like flip a switch and manually pull the steering wheel out? with the reliability of global supply chains and audi dealerships this stuff just dosent seem like a viable form of transportation yet. not to say it isn't a cool toy to show off on the floors of a trade show!

I have to say I personally am not looking forward to these future vehicles, they're just too autonomous, too gimmicky, and more so they're electric. As a petrol head the future is a nightmare for me😭.
Anywho, one of the features Rory is highlighting here being the gesture open/close door function Mercedes already has in their current production S class, which begs the question - what and/or how much more can engineers and technicians cram into these vehicles?!

I feel like the components that current/older cars had like the grill/wheel spokes that are starting to be reimagined may soon be completely redesigned. They're making small adjustments now but since the car is electric there can really be anything on the front in any design. I bet they'll start doing some crazy things with that or just make it plain like tesla

Yeah, I read some article saying the same thing and calling it "new A8".
    Nope.
    NEITHER.
    NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
    These are just concepts.
The Audi GrandSphere is not going to be the next gen A8 or S8.
The Audi A8/S8 has always been a gradual evolution of the previous gen. In fact, they do this for their entire range.
That's how luxury cars do it. Even Mercedes and they got panned when they introduced fender flares for the W221 which they promptly dropped for the W222.
Anyways, the A8 and S8 will continue on the line they have been, styling wise.
This is way too radical to be anything other than a concept.
    ---
Oh, as a long time Audi owner, I know and like that Audi's style "evolves". Evolution is slow...little by little.
I have owned the D2 (first Gen) A8L, then the D3 A8L, and now the D4 A8L. It is time to trade it in again but this time for the S8L...since they finally have a long wheelbase version of the S8, and they no longer have the V8 option for the A8 (only V6 option). Next time I go to the dealer, I'll have to sit down and spec' out a new one with the options I want.

Okay first off i just want to say your fit was spot on 😉 lol but fr fr i must admit im used to the whole primus of "aye look at me" (said car company) i made a some what "futuristic" car you're probably not going to think is something out of a Syfy film but "aye we got a view or two" lol.. this is one, not that in the slightest and two, is really something i hope they dont just scrap. Because not only do I see this being feasible as far as production goes, I can see this actually being something I'd drive myself as a daily, or see driving along side and having that feeling of wondering if I'm actually in the future in that present moment or not. And that is really hard to attain nowadays you seeing that we have new movies and things reminding us of how advanced we are on a day to day basis. This car is by far in a whole nother category. I praise the people who came up with the concept and the people who spent I'm sure thousands of man hours putting this beautiful creation out there for us to enjoy in 2022 as a concept or 2052?? IRL. Thank you for this.

These concept cars are jaw dropping however some of the feature seem oddly placed if you want ti change settings but need to focus on the road, for example the climate control buttons being on the door.
