Living alone, you know your heart can be broken if you lose your spouse. You will never have that sadness of losing someone or you die and break someone's heart. Hey! its great and I am not lonely. Too many things to do.to be lonesome. I am soon to be 74 and thank God I am still healthy.

I am so blessed. After my 2nd husband passed away, 5 years ago, I moved back to the States from St. Croix. I really didn’t want to buy another house or live in an apartment. My son-in-law suggested I build onto their home an apartment, I designed just for me. I have my own separate entrance with a very large “L” shaped porch overlooking their pond, with large picture windows to enjoy the views. I had a roll-in shower if I’m ever in need of a wheelchair. It is small, with a huge walk-in closet. My builder was able to give me 10’ ceilings making my little apartment seem much larger. I’m 73 and see my daughter every day. Yes, I am very blessed.😊

@@julielivingston9207 I lost my beloved husband who was my soul mate and best friend, to cancer in 2020. 4 months later our dog passed away as well and he was only 6 years old. It was during the covid lockdown. All our family live in the UK and we have no children. I was all alone. I honestly wanted to die myself but the experience actually gave me enormous strength. I spend a lot of time alone now as most people my age (I am 66) have children and grandchildren or still have their husbands. I spend time doing hobbies I love, keeping fit, walking in nature, painting, cooking, reading, meditating etc… I never stop missing my husband and beloved pets that have passed away and sometimes I feel sad. That is okay, we feel a variety of emotions but I always feel better again. We all heal from grief at different rates. It does get easier with time. Be kind to yourself and cry your eyes out when you need to, it is a fabulous cathartic release, but also focus on what you are grateful for and do what you love. I feel my husband around a lot of the time and often see him in my dreams. You will feel better in time even if you now feel you never will. Giving you a virtual hug🤗💜

I’m 75 and have 4 cats. I lost two of my beautiful cats last year. My cats are so loved and cared for. They are the best companions I could have. I’m also living with my girlfriend. But she’s partially disabled and can’t do physical work. That makes it tough because I can’t do physical work either. I was doing ok until last November when I developed a lung problem. It wasn’t until 9 months later when I was diagnosed with emphysema. Because my health has declined in the last few months I get super depressed. Just last week I learned my PSA test for post-op prostate cancer went up so now I have to get radiation and hormone therapies. I haven’t started the treatments yet and I’m scared to death about all the side effects. The treatments cause loss of libido and a terrible feeling in my body. The treatment will mean I have to go get radiation 5 times a week for 9 weeks. That’s 45 radiation treatments. I don’t know what to do. The doctor said I wouldn’t have a problem for at least 5 years so I’m wondering if I should not have the treatments. I need to talk to the doctor again to ask more questions, like if the side effects are permanent. I love sex so having libido taken away is such a depressing thought. Anyone else dealing with these issues? All the best to everyone.

One of the good reasons to have a pet of a positive breed and an insurance plan for it, is that it will be easier for somebody whom the pet already knows to take over, if you suddenly die or become very unable to care for the pet yourself. One has to take responsibility for the continued care of the pet and be proactive for a smooth transition, even if it is best alternative that you outlive your pet, of course, so we petowners have to be very mindful about staying our strongest and healthiest, body and mind... and especially a dog helps a lot, reciprocally.

I've lived alone since the mid-1970's and have never, ever regretted it or felt lonely. Couldn't stand roomates and definitely wasn't interested in a spouse. I've enjoyed making my way in life and making my own choices. 50 years of bliss. I own my own home and never have to worry about a divorce making me homeless. As a woman, having one's own money and home allows one to make choices out of desire rather than necessity or fear. I would never do it any other way. So growing older is just an extension of having lived my life. Except now without the pressure of work - yay freedom!

It is true that it’s hard to motivate myself sometimes but I do and I stay on top of medical things, preparing meals and keeping a clean apartment and caring for my plants. I live in India. I worked for 30 years in a British Company but had to take Voluntary retirement because of my husband's transfer to a different city. I still had 15 years more to work. Being in a new place, different language and culture I was not happy. I was missing my office work. I was then 45 years. My daughter finished her graduation, my son passed his Class 12th. They were still studying.
I started going to Old Homes every week carrying goodies etc to cheer them. I took them for Eye check ups whenever they needed. I felt happy. Other days I started catering muffins, patties to Schools. I was settled with my routine.
Now I am 78 years, living with my husband. Children are married, living in different Cities. Every day I have my fixed timings for every thing. After washng my self and dressing, I start my day with prayers. Then Excercises, breakfast, dusting the house, watering my plants, Bible Study, and then lunch. After lunch I watch News and then take 1 hour nap. Evenings I hardly step out because I get severe pain in my ankles so I sit in my balcony and watch outside. I love animals and feed milk to a stray cat. Sundays we go to Church. I prepare special non-veg for lunch. I love cooking and baking. Every Christmas we go to our daughter in different city. There I bake Christmas cakes, brownies and other mouth watering goodies for every relative and for visitors.
We stay with our daughter and her family for a fortnight. During Christmas and New Year time I meet my sisters too.
Financially I am not too sound but God is my helper and taking good care and doing miracles. I thank and praise God and am so grateful to Him.

They have every kind of activity one could imagine. You can have as much solitude as you want, or you can join an activity. It is really great for anyone who wants to live alone and yet be near people.

One thing I've noticed about living alone as I get elderly now (71) is I just get used to my own world, my own routines, the peacefulness of where I live, meal routines, and when I sleep and wake up. That's fine. Is it? Nope sometimes. I now get quite stressed if I have to go outside my own "zone", fit with unusual routines. I have realised my stress levels really elevate even if I have to go out to town for something! Or go out for a meal with friends (who all lunch, and I never do!) It's so silly to get stressed over nice things like that! I cannot wait to get home.

I miss having a shared history with others and never will have that again. When mobility and health issues show up, it is frustrating to be unable to do all the things you once did without giving it a thought.
Your video talks about organizing get togethers. That's impossible if all your friends have died.
I spent most of my youth raising my sons and then caring for my family so it's nice to have absolutely no responsibility towards anyone except myself. I honestly like the peace, quiet and solitude.

She and the children and grandson treat me like a stranger because of a comment I made several years ago. I haven't seen or talked to my kids for almost 4 years. My daughter lives about a mile away. I used to have friends that I would get together with for lunch a beer or just a phone call but they have all died. I think I know how Custer felt.

But having access to the internet helps big time. I can interact with people on social media and it helps with not having someone to talk to. For the most part, I am very happy. I’m 77 and my husband died 12 yr ago. I live alone. At first I was active. I volunteered at the local soup kitchen in the pantry. I met new people and friends . Had about 5 yrs of that then injured my back. Had 2 long surgeries and practically became invalid. 2 of my new friends died and one moved into a nursing home. Last 6 years I’m totally alone. I eat frozen meals mostly because it easy. I have 2 small dogs, which has become my dearest companions. They give me joy and purpose. I have a strict schedule. Up at 7am sleep at 11. I don’t walk well because of my back and surgeries. I fall a lot. I’m quite small so I don’t get badly hurt with these falls. Sometimes I can’t get up so I have to figure out how. I had a stair lift put in in 2017 but now broken. It’s outside so corrosion took over. I’m doing the stairs now. Very difficult but I make myself do it. Few things I can’t do. Mowing grass and changing my bed. I do have a daughter and 2 grand children. They will do it but not on a timely basis. I really dont want to live with anyone. I do keep my great granddaughter 2 hrs after school . It helps her and helps to fill my day. I was very lonely at first but now I wouldn’t want anyone around all the time.

There are so many different groups to choose from. There are travel clubs, cooking clubs, dinner and lunch meet and greet, art clubs, exercise groups movie nights, just to mention a few. When the holidays approaches, I still make plans to either cook my own festive meals, with all the trimmings or get with a meet up group for a holiday meal out. Idon't have relatives in the town I live, but I do have a few friends that I occasionally enjoy spending leisure time with. I found that downsizing for me was a good choice. I live in a great apartment complex. I don't personally know all my neighbors, but the apartment complex i live in, often have meet your neighbor events, pizza night and sometimes even weekend coffee and pastry mornings for residents. I do sometimes volunteer to help with feeding the homeless, which i really enjoy, because i get to meet and help others. Now 80, retired and living alone I agree with the points made in this excellent video. Keep in mind that the wrong partner can make your life miserable and personal freedom is wonderful compensation for solitude. No drama and stress enables satisfaction with everyday life.🥰🥰🥰🥰

This video offers a thoughtful and realistic view of living alone as an older person. I particularly appreciated the advice on safety, maintaining routines, and being proactive with social connections and physical activity. Small steps like asking for help and creating daily rituals can make life more fulfilling. Thanks for sharing such valuable insights!

People are too busy trying to figure out life in this troubled economy . No one has time or interest in older folks ,unless we have some money for them , When you get old you simply dont matter very much

Most people only have interest in themselves, age has nothing to do with it, your just not as busy trying to scratch out a living and notice it more.

I find that smiling at people, even have a chat while shopping, light up their day aswel. We have a good laugh even if we don't know each other at all. It works and makes my day.....take care oldies..❤❤❤❤❤❤

@@jstar1000, age does have something to do with it! This is a very youth oriented culture! Technology has made it more so. I hung on my grandma’s every word. Most young people today have little or no interest in hearing about older people ‘s thoughts, ideas or experiences.
