So I did the speaker swap. WOW! It sounds much better. It is also quite louder and I can crank it up to the max and it still sounds good. I tried it in some jams and so far, I can use it alone where I had to mike it before. Regular jams in bar or on a terrace outdoors with band playing at a decent (safe) level with volume around 2 o'clock. I will still carry my mic kit in case it gets too loud but I should be OK for most small gigs. A fellow guitar player using a Deluxe Reverb complimented me on the sound and specifically the fact that I was cutting nicely through. His tone was fabulous. He was curious about my little Mustang, tested it and inquired about the weight. Deluxe is great but heavy. The operation was very simple. Easy to do. I cut off the tiny connector and replaced it with a regular size one. The original speaker weighs 1.83 lbs. The Celestion TF0818 is 5.1 lbs. The magnet is huge and strong! The amp goes from 12.75 to 15.9 lbs after the swap. The response curve is quite different. I've had to cut the mids in most of my custom patches. I'm realy happy with the improvement.
Wow, Marc - this is by far the best review I've gotten from either this video or the same swap I did with the Champion 20. My experience conforms exactly to yours and I'm going to pin your comment to the top so more people see it. Thanks, and rock on!!
Hi Hoodrio I love my Fender Lt 25. The only disadvantage is that the Fender pedal will only allow you to switch between two presets. Would be nice to be able to switch between several. Love your videos BTW 😍😍😍
Thanks for the kind feedback, and I couldn’t agree more about the footswitch. I was very disappointed when I learned that, because I was just assuming it would take the same footswitch as the LT 50, which has tons of functions including the tuner. A real head scratcher on Fender’s part!
I have the LT25 and a busted old Crate80 amp. I disconnected the Fender 8" and plugged it directly into the Celestion G12k 12" speaker in that cab. Wow, tons of midrange and volume for my Tele. SuperClean on the LT25 has zero 60cycle hum. None. I run my Yamaha fgdp drum kit thru it too! Actually, my keyboard and bass is run thru it to record in my Studio. It's all digital and the copy of the other amp modelers inside this thing are great, too. Just dial down the gain when you are in those amps to rid yourself of the hum. Best little amp with lots of functions to add to your own pedal chain.
I like this LT25, it's simple and clear for a modeling amp. I only play at home, bedroom as it is called, but have a problem. I play at very low volume, and only use low OD, yet I think the sound "cracks" immediately. I wonder if it can be helped with a speaker replacement, or that for example LT50 would be preferable?
@@Hoodrio Hello, no, it's not broken, it's more like the speaker can't handle the distortion. It's probably more how you perceive sound, but I want a more fixed OD. It might be more correct to call it too much crunchy sound than cracked.
@@ulfhellman8749 you said it was at low volume, so it wouldn’t make sense that the speaker can’t handle the distortion. A lot of people like the crunchy sound, so maybe it’s not just not your flavor of distortion? You could try running an overdrive or distortion pedal that you know you like in front of one of the clean settings on the Mustang and see if you have the same problem.
I really like my Fender Champion 20 as is, but would like to get a thicker sound. Is there a way to change the speaker in it? I've never done such a switch and am not sure how.
Yes, it’s easy to switch speakers in any amplifier. You can see my Champion 20 speaker video linked at the end of this one, and you can also search RUclips for other videos that show you how to switch.
I got an LT50 that I keep where we jam and an LT25 that use at home. I don't know much about speaker replacement and I noticed the TF0818 is a 100watt replacing what a 25watt? Sure sounds better but I didn't know you could bump up like that. I really need a new speaker for my LT50 its is not sounding good anymore. thx for any info
For speaker replacement you can always go higher wattage, just not lower for fear of blowing the new speaker. I wouldn’t spend a lot of money upgrading the speaker on a budget amplifier like a mustang LT, so for the LT 50 I would probably look at one of the Eminence Legend series like the 1258. You can go to their website and listen to sound samples of the various models. Good luck!
The Celestion is a louder speaker, so it could have been that, but more likely the fact that with this amp you can use the screen to adjust settings and it won’t be reflected in the knob positions.
@@Hoodrio The master is not affected by the settings like the other knobs so if you didn't modified your patches, the speaker would the factor. With the stock speaker, I can be almost on par with others in a jam, not cut through though. With the Celestion, I might be able to. It would be nice to have a small jam amp instead of carrying the big rig. Thanks!
Do you know if you get a better overdrive tone running the amp clean with an independent overdrive pedal? Or is there a good overdrive tone you can get from the amp itself. I’m a bedroom player and like running my amps loud enough to fill my 10x14 foot room. Also I’m looking for Social Distortion type overdrive. Thanks. Forgot to mention you can totally hear the difference through iPad Pro speakers and the Celestion sounds really good.
I'm not familiar with Social Distortion, so I can't help there, and I haven't run any external overdrive pedals into the amplifier. But I will say one of the pleasant surprises about it has been how good the onboard dirt pedal emulations are. I find that running the Twin Reverb amp model and then adding either the built-in Klon, tube screamer, or fuzz face all give surprisingly usable sounds. Hope that helps!
@@Hoodrio I bought the amp in Surf Green and love it. Also, I don’t need an overdrive pedal. I get the sound I’m looking for with the Bassman and the onboard Mythic drive. However, I still want to buy the Celestion. Curious, did the TF0818 drop right in? Also, since the speaker is so much bigger did you have any problems putting the back panel back on?
Yes, the speaker dropped right in and there was no problem putting the back on. The only issue, and I think others have commented on it here, is getting the damn back panel off in the first place. I can’t remember now how I did it, but just be aware that it is a little bit of a pain and you might actually want to try removing the back panel before you spend the money on the speaker to make sure you can do it. Glad you’re enjoying the amp!
Celestion speakers should be as available worldwide as any other brand. The thing about this particular speaker is it is very high wattage and full range, meaning it is better suited for a modeling amp than a traditional guitar amplifier speaker. You could try a traditional guitar amp speaker like their Eight 15, but I don’t have experience with it.
I can’t remember what I did, but I might have used a small screwdriver to wedge it, or put the power cable in and gently pulled on the head of it. Let us know what worked.
it's bloody solid...like its been glued. Tried accessing via the top handle but no access. excess force will break bits of the back. I have no idea. Pliers on the socket can't even budge it!
I tried to get the socket off but the screws just go round without loosening...Tried screwdriver, chisels, paint scraper blades..the lot. Frikkin fort knox! got a nice replacement speaker and no way into the thing.
@@thepanda4067 Bummer! Now that you mention the screws around the power jack, I do have a vague recollection of having to remove that. Why, Fender, why?!
Now having removed the chassis bolts...still nothing loosens and they won't even go back in. This thing is designed to self destruct. please beware of attempting any maintenance on this thing. I am drifting further and further into trouble.
