Bought an Eastman almost on a whim and there’s not a thing I would change about that guitar. Neck and fretwork are perfect, and the pickup rocks. It’s a pure joy to play and through a tweed deluxe it’s epic.
If you’re so happy with a Chinese guitar maybe you should get a Chinese amp to match it. People seem to be enjoying the new Fender Tone Masters and I’m sure they will eventually have a Tweed model in the lineup. People buying expensive Chinese guitars are going to be the death of the American made guitar. I hope all guys will be happy when that day comes. Since I own the new Epiphone Les Paul Special and a white Tokai Les Paul Special I am leaning towards the Billie Joe Armstrong Junior. The Epiphone P-90 PRO pickups are surprisingly good. I'd pick an Eastman over a Gibson everytime, though. But with a different finish, for sure.

The JJN signature Epiphone "Gold Glory" may be the best single cut P90 being made right now. LP shape, ebony and mahogany, with a Seymour Duncan P90. I haven't found anything yet that comes close. Great video. Thanks.

I think the Eastman wins and the lollar pickup is much better than any modern Gibson pickup and the Eastman is much closer to vintage spec. Love the review mate keep the awesome content coming!
I bought a epi special in t.v. yellow. There was only one issue, the back of the neck was very sticky. Sanded it down to bare wood, applied boiled linseed oil and perfection. 👍👍👍
Another great comparison video. Hard to beat the value for money you get with the Epiphone. My Junior is a 2011 Epiphone project guitar I got used from our local shop. Played it several times and got along well with it. Had cheap tuners, a very hot humbucker and not great wiring. I went for a Generic Korean made alnico 5 humbucker-sized P90, premium wiring from 6 String Supplies, Graphtec nut and vintage style white button tuners. Killer little guitar now.

I'm pretty sold on the Eastman. It just sounds right. I haven't had a chance to play either but based on the weight and resonance it's probably more on par with a G cs variation. I love the varnish and don't mind that it "personalizes via dents and dings" easily.. and Great googly moogly the sound!! It has a characteristic I can't quite place my finger on.

Agreed with the one in ten. They were literally known as that back in 2000 when I ran a studio. Since then I've bought and sold loads. The 2017 HP classics were an uptick for me. The others had all the usual issues- refusal to intonate above the 12th on the g and d, binding bleed, poor nut work, bad tops...Ugh. I moved to an sg from 98 and never looked back. Good video as ever.
Eastman for me! It's mellow when it needs to be, raucous when the occasion calls for it. Seems to have great dynamics as well, very responsive to pick attack. Still curious to know what's under the pickguard though...
Really enjoy how in-depth your channel is and how unbiased you are. I actually have the same Gibson les paul Junior you have and absolutely love it, probably my go-to guitar. That being said, I actually just bought the TV yellow Epiphone special instead of the Gibson and a Gold Top 50s Epi over the Gibson because of your channel and reviews. Thank you for helping me look past the name on the headstock.
Great video Col. I’d just controlled my gas for an Eastman SB59 in the Vintage finish...now it’s back! Nearly every review I’ve read / watched rates Eastman very highly.

Out of those three I would by the Eastman if they were the only P90 guitars available. However, the Middle range Yamaha Revstar has got me very interested and for the money, it's brilliant. And, you get two pick ups....
Love this vids! Great to hear an honest point of view from someone who is objective and does not put Gibson on a pedestal… You should review the Eastman Les Pauls, very curious to hear your opinion. Keep it coming! Nice work.
My friend, you are an excellent musician. You would make a damn good tech and your humble attitude is overwhelming. You're referring to some people that are basically full of themselves to the point to where nothing around them affects them other than what they're doing, you sir, are a kind Person
Hi Collin!. All three sound excellent but to my ears the Eastman sounds more resonant. The Eastman when you stram a chord has more presence unplugged and plugged. Very good review as always and great playing. Thanks.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I've watched this video several times. I decided to buy the BJA Junior based on your review. It fit my budget, first of all. I chose this model over the Epiphone Les Paul junior because of the numbers: neck size, etc. I'm glad you make comparisons like this.
I love this channel, as a guitar but novice player this channel makes me feel like I’m chatting about guitars at home or in the pub with my mate. Playing in shops really intimidated me but I invested in the Fender mustang micro - I take that with me now with my headphones and I can play in my own world in the corner and not feel embarrassed. The micro gives you a good sense of the guitar through you home amp, it’s also improved my ability to play at home with disturbing the wife. Great little investment guys…
I just bought thr PRS SE One this week. Can't wait to hold ))) It would be interesting to compare One with the tested guitars. Thanks for the excellent review!
Another great video Colin! Loving the Eastman content Keep it coming! And might I say, the Les Paul Juniors seem to bring out something in you as you sound great. Can’t wait to watch the next video tonight. Cheers from Brisbane.
I'm an SG guy. I have a Strat Plus that I love, but my favorite SG is literally within arm's reach all day. I've wanted a Junior since the 70s. Thanks... I think!
I'm usually a cheap guitar guy, and the Epiphone seems like it would be great for doing Billie Joe-type stuff, but I feel that the sound of the Billie Joe wasn't as open and snarly as the Gibson and Eastman, and it seems to me like it's the pickup. Of course, you could buy the Epiphone plus a Gibson p-90 for less than the cost of either of the other two guitars.
Nice one Colin. I'm not sure which is best, they all have their own tones. So I think it would be beneficial to any player to have one of each in their guitarsenal. I own a Gibson junior dc already and plan to get an Epiphone junior for my daughter. Now the Eastman, that is one sexy piece of gear. I will definitely have to aquire one for myself. That neck, the finish and the lollar p90 put it on my wishlist. Keep up the great work, you have one follower for the life of your channel. Cheers
I'd like an Eastman! Can't find a dealer here in the Philippines, too bad. I love these videos, I just play it while I'm doing my practice, so relaxing.
Great! Thought provoking! On paper I'd go for the Eastman over the Gibson considering they're the same price - the specs say it all. But on listening to these 2 on the table it was the Gibson for me - I think I prefer a slightly weightier, darker sound . . . of course 'out there' in the real world I'd want to play both and the ebony board, bone nut, Lollar etc. would probably skew my expectations in looking - from all I have read Eastman quality is very consistent compared to Gibson. The Epi also sounded perfectly fine, of course but not keen on white guitars, I'm afraid :) Still hanging out to try an Eastman SB59/v or even the nitro SB59 when I can - I have a feeling one of them is in my future! Thanks for the fun session, have a good weekend!
Love the channel and I appreciate the honest and unbiased reviews. One thing I wouldn’t mind seeing is a quick inspection of the frets with a fret rocker, particularly on the budget guitars. I’ve noticed a lot of high frets on budget guitars and it’s not a cheap to have a guitar tech level the frets. Cheers!
I have one of those SB55 single cuts and it's a stellar instrument. I posted a video on my RUclips channel playing some blues riffs on it through a Boss Katana and it sounds really good.
I agree with a lot of the views below. I like the way you are down to earth and a normal bloke! Plus I was surprised about your revelation, that you, like me and probably most guitarists? Have the playing in a shop problem. Brilliant and entertaining programme!!
Thanks Colin. It is going to come down to what we feel, hear and quality. They all seem like decent guitars. I have an Epiphone Plus Top Pro Les Paul but I need to replace the output jack or at least the retainer nut. Because it will not tighten as it should. Hence the perceived quality of the original assembly. Peace.
I’ve been playing Gibsons since the 80’s. For good or bad I’m used to them, I pick them up and it’s an old friend that I recognize. My favorite one is a 74 LP custom that a collector wouldn’t bat an eye at and I’ve played it religiously for the past 30 years. I’m left handed as well, which means there is not much available and I have to make them work because there isn’t another one if I don’t like one. With that I think I’ve learned patience with an instrument whereas when there’s so much available to right handed players they can just throw it out and pick up another one, I can’t. I’ve also learned that every guitar is a few adjustments away from being the best guitar you’ve ever played. I have a custom shop Strat that I’ve owned and hated for years. I finally found the perfect neck adjustment and a few high spots and now it’s my favorite Strat that I’ve ever owned. I also tour, I’ll take a guitar that I’m not that in love with but plays fine across the world with me, by the time I get back, I’m using that guitar a lot more.
i have a 2011 Gibson, bought it second hand on REVERB without seeing it. it is insanely good, my favourite guitar to play out of the many i own, super resonant.
What a teriffic analysis and all round entertainment thank you for your work sir! I shall look forward to tuning in more often. On the back of this I bought the Eastman having tried a few Gibsons which to me felt like toys in comparison and were most definately not 'the ones' (and im a dyed in the wool Gibson man). The Eastman is a joy. That ebony neck alone-wow and, well, all of it really. Thanks again
You kicked in my 62 year old memory when you talked about "the one" A friend back in the 80s who was 10 years older played in bands since he was a teenager... in about 1987 he showed me his new Eldegas strat. He payed about 250 dollars for it. He told me he went to 3 or 4 music stores that carried them and played a ton of them and bought the best one. In his opiniin It was as good as or better than any of his old fender strats that he didnt want to take to gigs anymore. Thats why I still struggle buying any guitars online despite my fear of playing in music stores.Great comparison Colin really enjoyed it.
I am an old house painter, and gloss is not your friend unless the foundation is perfect. I am a big fan of French rubbed effect. Also, I am finally beginning to understand what a monumental job Epiphone is doing. Thank you.
I picked up a black junior secondhand, and I absolutely love it. QC isn't a thing i can critique on it as it has scratches and lumps here and there from being played and loved. I have changed the bridge to a compensated model and swapped the wiring for a Monty's jnr loom. It is 7.4lbs I am totally in love with it, although I would love and Eastman to go with it 😂

If they called it the Gibson Player series (or something similar) a la Fender, I bet many more people would buy Epiphones! Well done again Colin!
I love your videos. Original and thoughtful. Thanks for doing what you do.
Thanks man!
Hi Collin!.
All three sound excellent but to my ears the Eastman sounds more resonant.
The Eastman when you stram a chord has more presence unplugged and plugged.
Very good review as always and great playing.
Thanks.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Cheers Michael, I thought and felt that too... about the Eastman, not my playing! 🤣
Another great video Colin, I believe Eastman make great guitars even though I'm not in the market for a LP junior, I love your enthusiasm
Always look forward to your video's thanks for putting in the time.
Thanks for supporting! 😎👍
Great review and Video, Colin !
Cheers Dan!
I've watched this video several times. I decided to buy the BJA Junior based on your review. It fit my budget, first of all. I chose this model over the Epiphone Les Paul junior because of the numbers: neck size, etc. I'm glad you make comparisons like this.
Excellent review. Thank you for all your effort. So enjoyable. 🤘👍
Cheers Dan! 😎👍
Watching you play them, I noticed you were enjoying the Eastman more. I've had Eastman acoustics and they were great, thanks for the review👍
Cheers Andrew, that’s a great tip for trying out guitars in store! 👍👍
I think they all sound fantastic. Great playing, too.
Cheers Stefan!
Cheers
Cheers Donny! thanks for supporting man and adding a new word to my vocabulary... 'Guitarsenal' I love that! 😆👍
With your influence (another of your videos; Epi VS Gib LP Special) I ordered the Epiphone IBG. Thank you again.
I own an Epiphone Jr and love it, but I'm impressed with the Eastman from what I'm hearing, but the price is out of my budget, great video
I'd like an Eastman! Can't find a dealer here in the Philippines, too bad.
I love these videos, I just play it while I'm doing my practice, so relaxing.
Thanks man! 😎👍
Cheers Morton, I have a feeling you may be interested in next weeks film too... 😜
Remove the no load tone pot and you'll get the darkness and depth back too the Eastman, or just roll off the tone after the click/notch
I just bought a Eastman SB 55 and the quality is beyond awesome. It’s the best guitar I have.
😁👍👍
Love the channel and I appreciate the honest and unbiased reviews. One thing I wouldn’t mind seeing is a quick inspection of the frets with a fret rocker, particularly on the budget guitars. I’ve noticed a lot of high frets on budget guitars and it’s not a cheap to have a guitar tech level the frets. Cheers!
I have one of those SB55 single cuts and it's a stellar instrument. I posted a video on my RUclips channel playing some blues riffs on it through a Boss Katana and it sounds really good.
Nice one Jimmy! 😎👍
I agree with a lot of the views below. I like the way you are down to earth and a normal bloke! Plus I was surprised about your revelation, that you, like me and probably most guitarists? Have the playing in a shop problem. Brilliant and entertaining programme!!
Cheers Albert...to be honest i'm just a normal bloke lucky enough to own a few cameras and have bit of time on my hands! 🤣
I'd be really interested in hearing the Lollar Pup in the Epiphone compared to the standard Epi and the Gibson with P90?
Thanks Colin. It is going to come down to what we feel, hear and quality. They all seem like decent guitars.
I have an Epiphone Plus Top Pro Les Paul but I need to replace the output jack or at least the retainer nut. Because it will not tighten as it should. Hence the perceived quality of the original assembly. Peace.
Hi Colin. Don’t blush about your playing mate. We love the show!
Thanks mate! 🙏😊
Best guitar reviews on RUclips
Thanks Chad that’s appreciated! 🙏😊
Cheers Rob, good perspective from a lefty! … the rest of us don’t realise how lucky we are to be able to pick and choose 🤔
Great review n video. Gave me a good chuckle you old French smoothie.. still Stoke with my BJA Epiphone.. cheers cober
Cheers mate!
Great video! I would love any of these three. My budget dictates that I'll need that Epi if you please. 😂
i have a 2011 Gibson, bought it second hand on REVERB without seeing it.
it is insanely good, my favourite guitar to play out of the many i own, super resonant.
Thanks for another great review. Love the Eastman and the Epiphone
Cheers Howard, fantastic guitars eh!! 😁👍
@@theguitaristas Yes indeed-they will be worth a fortune in 50 years time😂
You kicked in my 62 year old memory when you talked about "the one" A friend back in the 80s who was 10 years older played in bands since he was a teenager... in about 1987 he showed me his new Eldegas strat.
Cheers Jeff! 😎👍
I don't really like listening to most of these RUclipsrs play guitars but I actually like your playing!
😂 Brilliant, thanks Joe! 👍
Thus video sold me on the Eastman.
Great content as allways! By far my favourite guitar channel! Keep up the great work and thank you very much!
Cheers Felix that’s appreciated man! 😎👍
I am an old house painter, and gloss is not your friend unless the foundation is perfect. I am a big fan of French rubbed effect. Also, I am finally beginning to understand what a monumental job Epiphone is doing. Thank you.
I have an Eastman antique finish Les Paul and it’s stunning
Great vid and great playing Colin, has to be the Epi for me! all the best mate.
I picked up a black junior secondhand, and I absolutely love it. QC isn't a thing i can critique on it as it has scratches and lumps here and there from being played and loved. I have changed the bridge to a compensated model and swapped the wiring for a Monty's jnr loom. It is 7.4lbs
I am totally in love with it, although I would love and Eastman to go with it 😂
I'm quite partial to French polishing jobs. I have two Eastmans and can wholly vouch for them.
😁👍
I've been looking at the epi bj and the Gibson lpj for a while now you just swung me to the epi bj even more so now I've just watched the fire bird bird vid, I've just found your channel and already you've cost me just over a grand!! 😁
Better quit now Nik this could get expensive… 🤣🤣👍
I love your playing dude best channel i have found in a long time i would buy the eastman if i could
Cheers man glad you found us! 😁👍
Great playing I forgot to mention.
They all sound good and similar, but the Eastman just stands out for me like it's just got more at the extremes.
Your guitar skills are enjoyable and smooth, nothing sticky or shredded.
