I think the “joke” (maybe twist would be better) is that it is very “technically” correct that it ruined his career, and got people to view the clip who didn’t immediately know what that meant. While this certainly hurt his career, I wouldn’t say it “tanked” it. He didn’t have too many critically acclaimed films prior to 93 anyways. And since 93 he’s been in Primal Fear, Chicago, Hachi, I’m not there, etc. Not blockbuster movies, but critically acclaimed and good films.
