I loved Biology at high school. My teacher was American, rare in New Zealand at the time. Id never heard a real American accent and was glued to my seat in lessons. Dr Huberman is a great communicator and speaks directly to us making the science very easy to digest. It"s fascinating to listen to ALL his podcasts. Thank you.

Can't agree more with Zoe Coote about how little the aged and dementia people are taken outside. This is so important. I take my partner out every day and have made a definite observation that when he's exposed to bright sunlight his mood improves immensely. Not only his mood, his lack of confusion,his mobility ,dexterity and spatial awareness are radically improved.He sleeps far far less and is an absolute delight to spend time with. I also had confirmation that taking short breaks from studying and switching off can be of real benefit. Thank you Andrew for you passion .
When you were talking about training people with ADHD to focus by narrowing their visual aperture. I taught myself to do this as a kid. The only way I could focus on a test was to get my face as close to the paper as possible to eliminate any possible movement in my peripheral vision. The only way to listen to the teacher was to put my forehead on the desk and let my hair fall around either side of my face so when I closed my eyes, there was complete darkness. Only then could I block out all the distracting movements and focus on their voice. I used to get in so much trouble for "sleeping in class."
Interestingly enough, this was my introduction to both of you but I can easily see why this is the most viewed. He translates the information of neuroscience so well to the average person. The Audiobook that I'm currently listening to is "Attached" because he mentioned it on one of his podcasts about Romance. I'm just starting this one but I'm excited to hear it.

Thank you.Now I understand the mechanism of my absolute focus and attention for long hours to study medical books, lectures over 6 years in Baghdad and then in UK to do post gradute degrees in general surgery ,Gyn.and obstetrics.Used to sit in a room alone, reading aloud to myself ,listening to what is read and holding a pen to write important points ,sometimes need to move on the flat roof of my parent house with walls ..That type of reading made me the first in my class of 180 students and even in Uk ,in the examinations my examiners ask where did I study medicine?.The way questions answered and the strong memory of some lectures even after55 years.It was natural and was proud ,excited ,happy that I was studying medicine and mixing with such high standard beings.Now the mechanism explained ,using vision, sound and tactile sensation.Thank you.Till now learning is the most enjoyable state for me.Never was able to study in library or only by vision alone.Now I have soft ware to read e books and look to big monitor to focus my vision.Got through philosophy of the greek books,German,history books.It is an amazing gift.Thank you for reassuring my mind.Listening to this podcast and read what is written on the screen, feel uncomfortable if the words spoken are not written on the screen and focusing is difficult so always write notes of what I hear to stay focused..

Have been unwell since 2 years of age and was a severe depressive but now at aged 57 am doing extremely well...finding your approach is finally bringing everything together and all makes absolute sense and holds my interest in a fully comprehensive way without being too dull...am anticipating tuning in more often and sharing your content with my close friends and anyone else whom asks me what I do when self managing...maybe U have literally answered my prayers on understanding my own health condition and am undeniably both surprised and grateful that U have given me a fabulous gift

I don’t normally go for videos this long but I’ve found myself totally imbued in the exchange between these two phenomenal men. It blows my mind to see Dr Huberman throwing in there so many names, numbers, studies, papers and all sorts of relevant info in very professional yet palatable language even for someone like me who is completely foreign to the topics being discussed. Profound thanks for this fascinating podcast. As someone who went through 18 years of child abuse from my father and subsequent traumas; traumas I subconsciously caused myself in my teens and young 20's, then in more recent years, losing my longtime, only-trusted partner in an accident, I appreciate so much what Dr. Huberman shares. I have gone through EMDR and is it basically a type of hypnosis? I'm watching the 2 fingers go back and forth and back and forth, breathing and In the process of it, I start to feel calm and relaxed after several goes in one session. Thanks again...I've an addiction to watching Huberman now as all these pieces of data are forming a larger picture of myself and my process of living a freer life, mentally.

Librarians/teachers who work with youngsters and reading know nearly all the behavioral actions you mentioned less than 30 minutes in. It is part of their professional practice. Thank you for putting the science behind it! That really counts to encourage good teaching and learning practices across schooling.
Great content and discussion gents! As a former full time meditating monk for 10 years, I learned the quickest way to focus from the inside out is to be able to transcend to have a more settled mind to naturally pick up on the right thought to focus on at the right time. Found this to be a more effortless way to focus versus objective focus methods using one of the senses, like sight, which requires more effort and therefore tires you out quicker.
As a youth mentor working with at-risk youth and homeless populations, with a history of PTSD myself, I have to say Andrew Huberman's work on vision & the nervous system is profound. I have to follow up on his podcast to see what trauma experts he's featured. If anyone here is dealing with trauma or knows someone with trauma (most people tbh), I highly recommend checking out Somatic Experiencing. Most people will NOT heal the deep nervous system, PHYSICAL roots of trauma until they tap into that nervous system healing. If they're dissociated or shut down, they won't even know what they're missing. Somatic Experiencing saved my life, and as a professional, has improved my tool set to help a wide variety of people.
Andrew is popular because he makes complex things super easy to understand. He follows the Feynman technique. Which shows that he is a genius and truly knows what he is doing. I hated biology so much but now I am obsessed with neuroscience because of him.
I want to thank you Rich for showing me Andrew and this amazing information that hes sharing us. Incredible stuff right here. Spiritual, biological, pshichological, neuroscientific, I mean, theres so much we can do for our human kind. Wonderful, both of you! Since my days as a psych trainee at the Veteran's Hosp in San Francisco 1974 and through my c. 50 years working with dreams and problem solving, my psychiatrist colleague and I have tried to convince our colleagues in Sleep research to stop saying naps are bad for you, and true dreams occur only during REM with almost no responses of interest to look into dreams in short naps, and into the benefits of napping during the day. AT LAST! Dr. Hittar and Dr. Huberman have seen that naps at the right time, etc. have glorious benefits in learning and managing sleep issues. Dr. Hattar said on his interview with Dr. Huberman that humans were made to nap. Alas, few have lived in a siesta culture and few can find a way to insert mid-day refreshment. It would be so good to hear them try to work out ways to include napping, especially for those who have to go to bed late.

Great discussion thanks to you both. When I was doing my master’s I had to listen and read and take notes so I could get through the vast amount required. I used a combination of the computer screen reader and an iPad and pencil to create ocr searchable notes in the papers - game changer!!!!!
I think psychedelic therapies work through creating more of and all encompassing acceptance, which if you think about it IS another form of letting go but rather than letting go to let something take over, as in the ketamine therapy it’s more of letting go of the personal interpretation and resistance and embracing the difficulties or the suffering in a way that is empathic and in that way healing and cathartic.

Thank you for putting the science behind it! That really counts to encourage good teaching and learning practices across schooling.

Great content and discussion gents! As a former full time meditating monk for 10 years, I learned the quickest way to focus from the inside out is to be able to transcend to have a more settled mind to naturally pick up on the right thought to focus on at the right time. Found this to be a more effortless way to focus versus objective focus methods using one of the senses, like sight, which requires more effort and therefore tires you out quicker.
As a youth mentor working with at-risk youth and homeless populations, with a history of PTSD myself, I have to say Andrew Huberman's work on vision & the nervous system is profound. I have to follow up on his podcast to see what trauma experts he's featured. If anyone here is dealing with trauma or knows someone with trauma (most people tbh), I highly recommend checking out Somatic Experiencing. Most people will NOT heal the deep nervous system, PHYSICAL roots of trauma until they tap into that nervous system healing. If they're dissociated or shut down, they won't even know what they're missing. Somatic Experiencing saved my life, and as a professional, has improved my tool set to help a wide variety of people.

Andrew inspired me to go back to school.
Andrew is popular because he makes complex things super easy to understand. He follows the Feynman technique. Which shows that he is a genius and truly knows what he is doing. I hated biology so much but now I am obsessed with neuroscience because of him.

Okay, I learned that in order to be cured I simply need to go outside every morning without my shirt on for 2 hours. Wish I had learned this 30+ years ago but better late than never. Hope the neighbors don't complain about this crazy shirtless middle-aged man every morning but my health is more important than their opinion. Thank you for all of the incredible information!

Wonderful, both of you! Since my days as a psych trainee at the Veteran's Hosp in San Francisco 1974 and through my c. 50 years working with dreams and problem solving, my psychiatrist colleague and I have tried to convince our colleagues in Sleep research to stop saying naps are bad for you, and true dreams occur only during REM with almost no responses of interest to look into dreams in short naps, and into the benefits of napping during the day. AT LAST! Dr. Hittar and Dr. Huberman have seen that naps at the right time, etc. have glorious benefits in learning and managing sleep issues. Dr. Hattar said on his interview with Dr. Huberman that humans were made to nap. Alas, few have lived in a siesta culture and few can find a way to insert mid-day refreshment. It would be so good to hear them try to work out ways to include napping, especially for those who have to go to bed late.

So many of these topics I am I terested in and of late , listening to the Huberman Podcast , it's filled in a lot of gaps , helps us to find other tools and mechanisms fir our physical and brain health and understanding our hormone pathways, sleep and even breathing..
At 62 , This has added to some beneficial life changes , I cannot begin to express the changes..

Great discussion thanks to you both. When I was doing my master’s I had to listen and read and take notes so I could get through the vast amount required. I used a combination of the computer screen reader and an iPad and pencil to create ocr searchable notes in the papers - game changer!!!!!
I think psychedelic therapies work through creating more of and all encompassing acceptance, which if you think about it IS another form of letting go but rather than letting go to let something take over, as in the ketamine therapy it’s more of letting go of the personal interpretation and resistance and embracing the difficulties or the suffering in a way that is empathic and in that way healing and cathartic.
