So deep. I love the way he apologizes at the end for breaking the promise he made to his wife before she died. Adds a little bit of heartbreak to the scene.
What I love about this scene: The room becomes a chessboard, and we're shown all the pieces in play as McCall methodically notes each piece's position and available moves as he formulates his countermoves and end game - even as he is conflicted - while the tension is allowed to build. When he finally springs into action, there are no surprises -- just brilliant execution (pun intended).

The crazy thing about *”The Equalizer/Mr. McCall”* is that we all know that one, VERY PARTICULAR middle aged black man who barely speaks, never bothers anybody or causes any problems, extremely educated, polite/respectful of others and most importantly compassionate with a side of “straight a** whooping” if the time ever calls for it. Denzel Washington is the greatest actor on the planet this guy can play any part in any movie you give him to absolute perfection from his words to his smile to his face expressions truly an honor to watch this man in movies I have seen every 1 he's ever been in
I am thinking Samuel L. Jackson too with the variety of roles that he has played, but I have to admit that Pacino and De Niro are on top, but Dicaprio will end up as the greatest of all time in terms of total body of work. The Revenant along with Scarface are 2 of the best-acted movies I have ever seen. Denzel in Malcolm X was classic too.
Have seen this part more than 50 times. Its a perfect scene. But for those characters who simply were unaware of the person standing infront of them I feel little time should have been given to them to understand what hit them & the regret of not taking the money he offered. As the build up was deeply engrossing, I wanted the end to be little bit longer for those bad guys. It would have been more satisfying.
I agree, but the purpose of the scene was to demonstrate his speed, efficiency, and razor edge skill. This is where we are introduced to the real McCall, and it's supposed to shock and awe, which it does in spades.
@Kevin Davis Yes I agree but it's just I feel atleast one guy, the casino owner should have felt his mistake for few more minutes before dying! The scene got over in no time.
i see this as two options: lets feel somebody sorry and let him live (and may be correct himself) or kill him as uncorrectible, than any time for sorry is wastes and give bastards chance fight back... i'n uncoutable movies and stories good guy made this mistake and in many of them lost because if that...
I know full well it is a movie but it applies in real life too, be civil with people because even though you may think you're a badass you never know who or what your dealing with, even the person who looks normal can be more lethal than you gave him credit for.
Actually there are events that play out in front of us that cause us, like the criminals in this scene, to pause to try and comprehend what they think they are seeing and react. Not so different from our disbelief at a car or train crash or a violent event that happens right in our faces.
I knew he was OCD but wow, even closing the door 3x and setting his watch?! That is very interesting. Almost like he’s setting a set amount of time into killing for the sake of the greater good. He takes his role in “equalizing” as part of his OCD where he can’t allow someone to be hurt/raped/used/ without intervening and treats the process as such. LEGEND
Piercing the corkscrew right through into that guy's mouth has to be one of the most merciless acts I ever witnessed in an action movie!!! It gave me chills when I watched this movie for the first time at the cinema...
it's a fun action movie and all that usual stuff, but it's the little things that separate one from the rest. for me, it's two moments in this scene. firstly, when the threats have been spoken and negotiations are at an end and robert quietly turns the face of death toward each man by rearranging the skulls on the desk. whoever thought of that is an artist. that's just some gangster shit. as a viewer you're like, oh damn. secondly, is when robert sits there and talks to him while he suffocates slowly about why he's dying and for what. that was like robert was actually taking on the role of death.
Never seen a part in a movie like that when he places fate (skulls) in front of the men, quietly, and with extreme purpose and passion. its one of the best uses of foreshadowing ive ever seen.
Loved this scene, and when he helped his coworker get the job as a security guard for the store, but they still got robbed, yet he still reassured him, "it's only money ", then went to the aisle and picked up the short sledgehammer 🤣🤣
Damn Denzel is in the top shelf of Hollywood actors he makes his movies so believable and he kills this part in this flick .I believe he is actually a decent human being as well as one my favorite actors .
McCall closing the door(to me) was not wanting to clear that room, but realized that he had to. Another school of thought was that he was testing opening and closing the door to see if any other gangsters would come running when they heard it.
I think the opening and closing of the door was symbolic of opening the door to his past. When he locked the door behind him I think he realizes that he will no be able to return to the non violent lifestyle for awhile. Epic. No matter how you look at it.
This really is one of the most satisfying revenge scenes on film. He tried to be civil. And they didn't take him seriously only to regret it immediately.
@@qualicumjack3906 As the other comment said. He's not apologizing to the men he killed. He felt they deserved it. He was apologizing to his deceased wife. He promised her not to kill anymore. But, he could not keep that promise.

I love Denzel, he is a fabulous actor and even greater human being.❤
Absolute perfection by denzel, his actions just phenomenal, every action he makes in this scene, even down to the twisting of the corkscrew once he uppercut. Outstanding truly professional acting by all , especially Denz
The corkscrew was symbolic, he rammed it up into his mouth to wipe the smile off his face.
Looking forward to #3. I can't get into the tv shows. But the movies hell yeah. Denzel kicks ass.
Same here, struggle with Tv shows but this has been great
I love this movie. He gave them a chance they did not take it . They all got what was coming to them. The way he kills them is great. I’m looking forward to EQUALIZER 3 .
Somehow I find him opening and closing the door repeatedly to be my favourite aspect of this scene.
It's something that could so easily be left out of the movie, but it makes all the difference.
Yeah...it is an amazing detail
Why was he doing that? I didn't get that bit.
@@stavio12 It's not explained, so it's there to add depth to his character by giving *you* the ability to explain it for yourself. Maybe it's because he's OCD, and his OCD helps him do these crazy killing sequences etc.
Maybe he was just covering up the sound of the door locking?
Get them laughing so they don’t notice him lock it?

Denzel is without a doubt, one of our finest American actors.
african
@@qwerty-tz1vj American
He is top drawer mate and Training Day should have been his second best actor Oscar, his first should have been for "The Hurricane". I expect we're going to get some absolutely brilliant performances from Denzel now he's into his mature phase of his career because this is the phase where great actors are called in for serious roles over pop culture roles.
@@darthwiizius i totally agree with everything you said! The only thing that might hold Denzel back is the sick woke culture that infests Hollywood. Denzel might live in Hollywood, however Hollywood doesn’t live in Denzel’s mind. What do you think?
The character felt compassion at the end... Says a lot about the character.. Well written and of course a#1 acting from a great actor and human being..
The actual fighting is just a 1 minute affair...but that buildup and intense acting ranks this 9 minute scene amongst most badass fights scenes ever
We need more Mr. Mccalls in this world!! 😢
They are out there. 😉
Reminds me of the dad from Friday, who's like "you need to settle something, you do it with your hands."
Why does he have to be black? Are you racist?
I don't know any.
And a few more Hutch "Nobody" Mansels
If life were only this simple. Someone like Denzel comes in and makes all your problems go away. This scene is awesome
Denzel Washington is just a good dude all around ! Him and his wife were at some event and an interviewer ask him who he voted for ! Denzel , flat out told her " none of your damn business " !
Exactly! All Lives Matter/MAGA! Denzel isn’t woke, he’s a patriot.
And.. what’s the connotation
@@benb7111 Denzel is a patriot who doesn’t sell out his own people like BLM and Stacey Abrams did. The founders of BLM have huge mansions. They are evil and support antiwhite thought.
@@vitesse_arnhem Dude you making zero sense mixing all kind of shit together. So he is a good guy because supposedly he told some one to fuck off when asked his political affiliation and know u moving to blm and selling soul… whatever dude
@@benb7111 I’m saying that Denzel stands tall for his beliefs. The BLM zealots stole the money from well-intentioned blacks as well as sellout whites, thinking it could virtue signal them into more street cred. What has BLM done for blacks? They burn down cities, trample the constitution, and attack cops. Black owned businesses were destroyed in these so-called ‘protests’ for justice. You think they give a damn about Floyd? They wanted blood and they found a legal excuse.
I love how he takes out the one in charge first. Very small detail that is great about this movie.
No its not.
I love when he plays with the skulls at the table. Those guys definitely did not know what was coming to them.
Denzel Washington is the greatest actor on the planet this guy can play any part in any movie you give him to absolute perfection from his words to his smile to his face expressions truly an honor to watch this man in movies I have seen every 1 he's ever been in
Joseph basically what you're trying to tell us is that you are a fanboy
@@sidhu139 why do you like Tom cruise better?
Dicaprio is up there though
I am thinking Samuel L. Jackson too with the variety of roles that he has played, but I have to admit that Pacino and De Niro are on top, but Dicaprio will end up as the greatest of all time in terms of total body of work. The Revenant along with Scarface are 2 of the best-acted movies I have ever seen. Denzel in Malcolm X was classic too.
@devonl9 FACTS my 2nd favorite actor on the planet LEO is awesome
"You should have have taken the money". That was priceless
Good reminder , thanks. Always keep your ego in check and remember that the best fight is the one you avoided if possible.
Getting those "YOU'RE LOCKED IN HERE WITH ME!!" vibes when I look into those eyes.
How very Rorschach of you.

That's what you get with good movie-making - suspension of disbelief.
LEGEND
@MikkelRS And the skulls on the table!!! 💀 💀 💀
He wanted to leave, but was really upset he had to do this one
Most efficient person I ever saw.
I didn't get why he did that to the door.
@@robbie_ To check whether the room’s actually soundproof or not
Piercing the corkscrew right through into that guy's mouth has to be one of the most merciless acts I ever witnessed in an action movie!!! It gave me chills when I watched this movie for the first time at the cinema...
He equalizes the issue serenely like calm lake.. no dump, no jump! He is a man who respects time and saves energy.
Shut up bombay!! Take a bath!!
it's a fun action movie and all that usual stuff, but it's the little things that separate one from the rest. for me, it's two moments in this scene. firstly, when the threats have been spoken and negotiations are at an end and robert quietly turns the face of death toward each man by rearranging the skulls on the desk. whoever thought of that is an artist. that's just some gangster shit. as a viewer you're like, oh damn. secondly, is when robert sits there and talks to him while he suffocates slowly about why he's dying and for what. that was like robert was actually taking on the role of death.
I never noticed that until now I don't think!!! Foreshadowing perhaps?
Never seen a part in a movie like that when he places fate (skulls) in front of the men, quietly, and with extreme purpose and passion. its one of the best uses of foreshadowing ive ever seen.
Boy did I loved Denzel in this scene, and this aged extremely nice, with the russians and all.
Loved this scene, and when he helped his coworker get the job as a security guard for the store, but they still got robbed, yet he still reassured him, "it's only money ", then went to the aisle and picked up the short sledgehammer 🤣🤣
Nice to see you consume plenty of your country’s propaganda. Good for you
Its the way he said "your life is going to end on the floor over 9800 dollars" for me lmao 🤣 😂 😆
His life was only worth 9800 dollars, he should have treated his own life as priceless, sadly he didnt.
Correction, he said this Funky floor which made it 500 times better lol.
This after he told him, Alina, the girl he beat half to death, her life will go on!

The Equalizer and John Wick is the crossover we all need.
One of the best scenes of all times. Expertly directed and acted.
"You should've taken the money."

2. This scene
3. The Lyft driver scene

Damn Denzel is in the top shelf of Hollywood actors he makes his movies so believable and he kills this part in this flick .I believe he is actually a decent human being as well as one my favorite actors .
I love this movie. And everybody in that room got exactly what they deserved. The Equalizer was right, he should have taken the deal.
The equalizer will always be my favorite movie. This scene will always be my favorite.
him counting during his death was so fucking cold daamn
Frank is top level, but Fallen, Man of Fire, and John Q are tops, to me Fallen is my favorite, very underrated movie.
McCall closing the door(to me) was not wanting to clear that room, but realized that he had to. Another school of thought was that he was testing opening and closing the door to see if any other gangsters would come running when they heard it.
Maybe you are right but he's got OCD this would explain the action of him with the door
It was simple OCD. Try not to read too much into it.
I believe he may have been doing that to see how sound proof it was but that's just an opinion.
I think the opening and closing of the door was symbolic of opening the door to his past. When he locked the door behind him I think he realizes that he will no be able to return to the non violent lifestyle for awhile. Epic. No matter how you look at it.
@@stargazer7644 It was a mixture of all things. You can clearly see he was conflicted before and after the room was cleared.

He tried to be civil. And they didn't take him seriously only to regret it immediately.
His calm controlled rage , so impressive...
The way he dropped the cork screws simultaneously from each of his hand facing back - just too cool!
Simply the best actor on planet earth.
The “I’m Sorry” at the end is the best moment in this scene.
It doesn’t make sense because he is quite sadistic to his victims and seems to relish in their slow deaths

He is a true gung-ho to the hilt. A mesmerizing American badass. Lots of love from Africa. 🌍
What i enjoyed most about this is that for once in a movie the good guy uses the gun on the boss immediately.
Yup, he knew boss had a gun in his desk.
The funny thing is that these guys didn't seem to understand that death was coming for them when he pointed the skulls in their direction.
They were just too arrogant to think Death could touch them so easily .
I thought I was the only one who saw that!!!!
This scene sold me equalizer series ..! I loved it
Every Denzel movie I think he’s actually that guy !!!🧐🧐😳😳👌🏾
Love the significance of going into samurai mindset. 3 heartbeats to commit to anything. He locked the door 3 times to count, giving his mind and body time to synchronize into a weapon.
