I always knew the dragon age games were gonna be different. I got into Dragon Age 2 first, then dragon age origins. I love all dragon age games. Im excited for it. The backlash of the game is like they haven't gotten over dragon age origins. If they want that game, play dragon age origins or BG3.

I'm still on the fence about this game, the art style and the combat seem a little off and different, but at the same time I'm intrigued. I can't stop this feeling that there is something off about this game, and bioware itself. Saw a lot of veterans of the studio being let go and that is worrying, but maybe it was just their time to move on. I run a YT channel and usually I'd be all over this game, but something is just stopping me from going deeper into it and covering the game. I really hope my feelings are totally wrong about this game and I hope it's a massive success. DA:O, 2 and inquisition hold a special place in my heart, I hope this latest instalment does the series justice.
I'm also a bit concerned by the state of Bioware with the layoffs, but to be fair, this game was mostly done by the time that happened, so I think we'll see more about how that's going to affect the studio with the next game they make.
I understand the skepticism around this game. What i don't understand is the hate that a lot of people seem to have for this already. DA hasn't been like origins since origins, so i dont get why people are still complaining that veilguard doesn't look like dao. Also, the visuals are objectively better than any other DA game, and people are whining that it looks bad. I'm convinced that some people just want to hate this no matter what.
I don't think that there is much "hate" necessarily. What I think it is, is a distrust with how companies recently handle older IP's. This isn't a fault of DA developers, however it is a reality that players nowadays have seen over and over again that their favorite IP gets a new game released and it seemed like the creators of the game didn't understand why said IP was so popular in the first place. I don't think you can fault the player for feeling this way. Is the new DA good? I guess we will find out, I hope its fantastic.
There's a full-blown troll farm stalking all of The Veilguard vids (hired by a zealot, right-wing, culture war content creator). So, much of the "hate" is manipulation intended to dissuade people from buying the game. Sadly, the tactic is used because it often works. So, it's important for people to know they're being manipulated and that a lot of what they are seeing is manufactured hate. (side-note: I'm a social media researcher ... so, tracking and documenting this stuff is what I do)

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan. I love that each game feels different from the last. Though i agree Bioware seems to be saying alot more about this game compared to previous ones. I hope theres actual surprises left in the game. Excited to play it in October. The new art direction will take some time to get used to but i do like the new action oriented combat.

Wouldn't say you were wrong as much as your coming to terms with the new. That's fine, though personally would like dragon age to return to form rather then this. Considering most were and are still displeased with 2 you would think bioware would get the hint but then comes inquisition now this. Slowly feels like decay that players keep calling out. Constant changing of the qunari design when 2 out of all things had the best reception shows this as an example.
I completely agree. Coming to terms is one way to put it. I think I'm just glad to have another sequel and am open to being surprised rather than defend it. There are MANY things that bother me with Veilguard as a huge fan but I am being cautiously optimistic 🙂🤞
I actually think that the spoilers are way less than we think they are. Definitely more than you want if you prefer no spoilers, but it's all been surrounding one specific faction: the grey wardens, probably the most well known faction. There are five others, six if you include the inquisition. We know almost nothing about how they're related to the plot.

I really liked Origins but I couldn't get into DA2 at all. After several tries I've never managed to get more than 20% of that game done. But DA: Inquisition blew me away and it is by far my fav of the franchise. I'm highly intrigued about Veilguard and I hope I like it even more than Inquisition. I love the look of it, except for the Qunari but I can live that to get all the rest. The customization looks like it is going to be amazing in Veilguard.

Yep. All of this is why this'll be my last BioWare game. I've played in SPITE of their "improvements". This game is one step too far removed from the games that made BioWare great - KOTOR, BG1 and 2, DA:O and Awakenings, Mass Effect 1 and 2... I'm done. There are new studios who are willing to cater to people who want grown up games with actual strategy and acknowledge the ability of the player to understand the plot without primary colours and 'shortcuts'. I'll get this game when it hits the Steam $10 sale, play it on god mode just to get the story (or maybe even watch it on youtube), and kiss my love of BioWare goodbye. The devs have flat out said "this is what we wanted all along, don't like it don't play it"... well congrats to them. I'm taking their advice. There's always Larian and Owlcat 🤷

Etcc then people are validated in annoyance and complete abandonment of "woke" games. If they cant make good narratives, stories and writing because they have to inject as much woke and diversity as they can. We'll just move on and not buy it. Wukong, Space Marine 2, Elden Ring, etc. Gamers are tired of the crap and will just shut down everything if we have to. We actually have the power to do so, and its showing

For clarity, the redesign on the darkspawn in this game are because the darkspawn are being mutated by Ghilinain - the "mother of monsters" elven god who creates fused monsters. She experiments with them. And, that part of the storyline was introduced 4 years ago in Tevinter Nights. It's not a new idea. And it is not a response to any kind of "backlash" (which is mostly from culture war trolls ....).

It absolutely will not be a game I get off rip unless I see SOME kind of tactics. It seems like with every new iteration they drop more and more tactical elements and strategy from the game. 3 abilities per character is awful no matter how you look at it. Only controllable via a command wheel? Even worse. This is likely going to be halfway between souls like and hack and slash and that will basically kill off the game I knew and loved. I don't see it as an evolution, I see it as deviating into whats "popular" to draw in more people since they think the original fans will buy no matter what. Which, if thats the case, I certainly won't be buying it. Its true, DA 1 was the best. DA 2 is where things slid off the side of a mountain. DA 3 was slightly better but still had that DA 2 stank. As far as the story goes, its about time for Varric to retire.

Kingdoms of Amalur:Reckoning is one of my favorite 360 games and the combat reminds me a little of that. The combat in KOA was vastly underrated.

For clarity, the redesign on the darkspawn in this game are because the darkspawn are being mutated by Ghilinain - the "mother of monsters" elven god who creates fused monsters. She experiments with them. And, that part of the storyline was introduced 4 years ago in Tevinter Nights. It's not a new idea. And it is not a response to any kind of "backlash" (which is mostly from culture war trolls ....).

I felt the game looked bad, the character modelling looks trash. Definitely a pass for me.

It absolutely will not be a game I get off rip unless I see SOME kind of tactics. It seems like with every new iteration they drop more and more tactical elements and strategy from the game. 3 abilities per character is awful no matter how you look at it. Only controllable via a command wheel? Even worse. This is likely going to be halfway between souls like and hack and slash and that will basically kill off the game I knew and loved. I don't see it as an evolution, I see it as deviating into whats "popular" to draw in more people since they think the original fans will buy no matter what. Which, if thats the case, I certainly won't be buying it. Its true, DA 1 was the best. DA 2 is where things slid off the side of a mountain. DA 3 was slightly better but still had that DA 2 stank. As far as the story goes, its about time for Varric to retire.
Yeah I understand that. They definitely have slowly started to move away from the tactical side which is unfortunate. 😔
