I think the thing with Starbucks is that it embodies everything about the USA and has been exported around the world. This includes the bad traits like low quality products, high prices, and poor labour practices. Consumer trends change, and these trends aren’t favourable anymore.
It's shocking it was ever valued as high in the first place. In Poland, where I live, Starbucks isn't attractive, because they're basically McDonald's for coffee. Why would I go to such a soulless, corporate and expensive place, when I can get a better experience at a local cafe?
Us Europeans know what real coffee is and how to enjoy it. In America it's a different story, they have their own meaning of coffee and coffee shops :)
Wow it only took how many years? I get up early, grind my own beans, and make my own coffee. It has blown my mind every time I drive by a Starbucks. People in line for 4x the time it takes to brew your own that tastes better
@@darinherrick9224The employee will hand him the product he paid for? Thats all the service we deserve or want. Thats it. Nothing more. I’m a customer, not a friend.
They took away the bar with milk choices, nutmeg, chocolate, vanilla etc.... They said it was a security issue. Then a simple tall coffee is no longer cheap.
Starbucks barista in UK are arrogant, no smile, can’t be bothered to clear cups and clean tables that’s be unattended for over 30min, just not acceptable when you want to sit and enjoy your beverage but having to wait and ask barista to clean table. Also the food section is very expensive, you’d be spending almost £10 for food and a drink. Rather spend my money in Costa , great service, friendly baristas and tables are always cleaned.
It's hardly a "third place" anymore. Many locations downtown in my city(Toronto) have removed any seating and new locations are built with no seating to begin with. It's easy to understand why with the vast number of people roaming the streets with mental/drug problems. The public bathrooms become littered with drug paraphernalia and feces. That's unsafe for staff so they needed to go.
I try to avoid them now after a horrible experiences waiting ages for something simple. They're too bothered with app orders to be concerned with in-store customers who actually bothered to walk in the door.
It used to be worth the money, but these days anytime I risked it, the stores were filthy, staff uncaring and the quality was horrible. The last time I went I promised myself, never again!
Atleast in Indonesia, they face serious challenge in term of pricing considering their coffee cost like $5 while local only cost like what, around $0.3
Starbucks is not a coffee company, it’s a financial institution and one of the largest banks in North America. With more people living paycheck to paycheck less of them are willing to pay high prices for drinks and even fewer are willing to use their loyalty program i.e. using Starbucks Card.
This is not Chipotle. The Starbucks brand has been poisoned, and there is no coming back. In the interim, Luckin has won China, and boycotts in Middle East, and SE Asia have allowed other competitors to catch up and steal market share. What are they going to do now? Tell the 'NEW Sbux story' or offer new menu items, or lower prices or promos? Maybe if they start selling Chipotle in Sbux they have a chance.
Starbucks should have never existed. Coffee is supposed to be a hot cup in the morning to boost. An ice gelatto pineapple grandé with nutella is not coffee, not even close.
"Everybody loves Starbucks"? No? We only got our first Starbucks in, what, 2017? Most people that drink there, are people who like weak coffee and chocolate. Meaning teenagers. Rest of us adults, drink coffee in proper coffeeshops. Love, the fourth most coffeedrinking people IN THE WORLD ☕😎 Norway. Waaaaaaaaaaaaaay ahead of the US. Ya'll keep your Starbucks. We'll drink coffee
The problem is Starbucks took unionization efforts as an affront in the first place. If they care about their image that much, they should’ve supported the unions & become stronger. Instead, they are declining
Everyone loves Starbucks - Ahhh noooo - 0:39 that's why they almost went why they almost went under in Australia, closing over 70% of their stores. Melbourne flat out rejected them. And its not really coffee - let's be honest now
They should focus on the coffee business and steer clear of politics. They've lost lucrative markets overseas (Russia, China, and the Middle East) and are now overly reliant on the EU and US/Canada, at a time when many families are struggling with inflation.
The complexity of your drink is inversely proportional to the depth of your character. Simplifying the menu by reducing excessive customization not only cuts complexity but also encourages customers to choose more affordable basic options. With simpler and more controlled choices, you'll streamline service and attract better-quality customers
Too expensive. The barristas get waaay in my business, to the point of where it's creepy. Too expensive. It all just tastes like sugar, not coffee. Too expensive. Long wait times. Too expensive. Simple coffee drinks aren't a thing anymore. Did I mention it was too expensive?
True Story: I asked for a decaf and the barista gave me a cup of milk; he told me he didnt know what decaf was...and he was serious. Just ridiculous, i havent drank from there since...dunkin all the way.
LOL at economists tripping all over themselves talking about branding and efficiency when the truth of the matter is that starbucks charges $7 a coffee now and people are fed up. You can buy a Ninja machine that does espresso, cold brew, and drip coffee for a few dozen starbucks drinks, which is what I moved to since 2023 when Starbucks became completely unaffordable. 🙄 Brian Niccol's great success with Chipotle was just jacking the prices and diving out before they started collapsing from price gouging, too. Only now he jumps to starbucks where they can't jack prices any more to juice sales numbers. Can't wait to see this schmuck fail.
My boss is from the US and when he visted us in Mexico, he said that we have way more thing than them in the States. I don't know if this has to do with some kind of regional management.
I would've liked some more commentary about the rise of competitor chains and the "Coffee Wars." SB seems to me as positioning itself as the more bougie, (upper) middle-class option with it's customization and pricing (even if the quality really isn't there), but retailers oriented to that market seem to be suffering across the board, e.g., Target compared to Walmart.

Where I live a drip Starbucks coffee is priced similar to Dunkin and cheaper than almost all cafe shops. They always are busy why they aren’t as profitable is a mystery to me. They even lower all the rewards they had 10 years ago.
