I got a steam deck oled yesterday it came in the mail. Personally for me if I’m playing a shooter online like cod I’m jumping on the actual desktop. I think it also comes down to if you have a extensive steam catalog of games already. Another thing that I think is not mentioned between the deck and ally is asus customer support, warranty claim issues, and repairabilty where I think the steam deck wins in all those categories hands down. That’s like my main reason why I never got an ally or x.
If you’re only PC is a handheld then ROG Ally X is one to get. Also, Customer support is not as good as SD but so far the Ally X has been out for a while and there is not much of an issue besides controller squeaking. The power, the battery, the extra RAM plus the VRR & 1080p screen makes it worth the extra $150. Not to mention I can play games that I could not play on SD because it’s Linux.
Never had a problem with Asus customer support in the UK. I think it's worth mentioning when criticising that it's US Asus customer support that is the problem.
Yeah same here. I wanted more power than the steam deck could offer but after Gamers Nexus did that expose on ASUS's RMA. I just couldn't justify the $800 price tag. I am currently rocking the Legion Go. got it on sale for $650.
real, honestly i would also have wished moer power from the deck, but like you said, for shooters i jump on an actual desktop, halo being the exception for campaign but yeah. The ally x had rly caught my attention, but here, the oled steam deck is 690$ CAD, compared to the minimum price of 1100$ CAD for the ally x. Just couldnt justfiy that big of a jump
Still rocking my launch ROG Ally but the battery life is what kills it. I would love the OLED screen, but i want the performance and Game Pass ability. If you could mash the Steam Deck OLED and Ally X together for an affordable price, I'd be in!
@@meric12131415 With most modern games about an hour unplugged. Usually I play with a power supply nearby so it didn't affect me all that much, but I do bring it to work on occasion when there's down time and having to find a spot to plug in is annoying.
Well, technically you can use Game Pass on the Steam Deck if you boot into Windows (assuming you can’t from browsers on Linux for whatever reason, I personally haven’t tried)
Man this handheld race is getting really damn exciting. Managed to get myself a steam deck 1TB for 450 off a dude who bought it and was disappointed it couldn't match his desktop PC. Been surprised this little thing can run DMC really well. I really wanna see where this tech will go in a few years, things are gonna be exciting.
You sound like me I managed to get my ROG Ally X for $350 off the normal price of Best Buy due to a sale and being a total tech member it was a open box somebody bought it the side they didn’t make it brought it back. I also think it was miss priced on the box. It says excellent condition, but my receipt says fair. Either way the thing was like brand new when I started it up and I love it.
I hooked up an eGPU to the ROG X, and it’s giving me three times the score of the Asus console itself it's crazy! I'm about to throw in a 7800XT soon. I'm having way more fun with the Asus than I ever did with my old desktop PC.
Man, i like the performance of the ally, but dont dont like asus. Spending 800 with a company that probably won't honor the warrenty at that price point, which is enough to build a really good budget PCs the biggest issue for me.
Just get it from Best Buy any warranty issue Best Buy would take care of it that’s why I have no issue with getting the ally x been loving mines for the past two months though I still have my steam deck and love it but usually just for emulation
@@eduardomaldonado5793 it's also 100 off for black friday. The original ally z1 extreme is 500 and gets almost identical performance 99% of the time too but the battery is half as big
Steam Deck OLED all day. Overall better value, better operating system, comes with a case, has OLED, slightly bigger screen, battery life is great, HDR, I won’t missing the extra pixels. I don’t need to play COD on a handheld. Got my PS5 for that.
@technicalactivity Plus you can install bazzite and essentially get all the benefits that steam os has, ive personally got a dual boot 4tb drive with windows and its fantastic
@@technicalactivityHDR better than vvr and the light on lcd screen looks so old compared to oled the bettery life is not huge different just longer than less than 1h not 4h even though it was 80w on ally and 50w oled but the lcd screen takes bettery more than oled and this why most of mobiles are oled today
The ally x should have had a bigger, oled display and it would've been perfect. The problem with the original ally besides the battery is that the screen is a bit too small for some games.
The trackpad is a major plus for me, I play a lot of RTS and games like Roller Coaster Tycoon. And I find the trackpad really nice to use of a lot of shooters. Steam Deck for me. And that OLED display 👌🏼
I thought of a Rog Ally when I wanted to get a handheld a few months ago, but the Steam Deck Oled just ticked everything I wanted (especially not windows handheld gaming). I have a PS5 and a good gaming laptop, so the console is for heavy-hitting games and laptop for PC only games and now can Remote Play on both. So, I just wanted a console feel with the PC deals and the dual touchpads are amazing for games that have mouse input and I can make virtual menus (the haptics on it are amazing). Plus the Oled has a longer lasting battery and I prefer to have HDR as it works with PS5 remote play and Valve did a great job with playing a game, putting it to sleep and resuming after turning on in seconds (boot up videos reminds me of the PSP and I love it).
As far as UI goes, Steam Big Picture mode is the exact same UI as Steam Deck now. For anything non-Steam, you can add it to Steam BPM the same way on a Windows device as you do on SteamOS. UI is the least worrisome thing, once everything is set up. Your Steam games are already there, add your non-Steam games the same way (using Steam ROM Manager [not just for ROMs]), and set Steam BPM to start at boot-up. Same easy-to-use interface as SteamOS. Not the only thing to consider with a handheld, but certainly not as big a deal as made out to be here.
Steamdeck OLED starts at £450, Ally X starts £750 So more like £300 difference. Most people wpuld be happy with 512gb.. if not you can upgrade to 1 or 2tb for less than valve charges with a spare drive to boot
For a start here in the UK the cheapest OLED Steam Deck is the 512GB model at £470, not £450. And Ally X is also often priced at £700 from major retailers and not £750. The Ally X specs are also more akin to the 1TB OLED Steam Deck which priced at £570, except the Ally X has 24GB of memory (an extra 8GB) and a far more powerful APU. So if you take that into account, then that extra £130 cost over a 1TB Steam Deck, is actually probably worth it to many. Especially for those gamers wanting that better performance and those wanting zero issues whenever trying to run any game they want too. Also, most people aren't happy with just 512GB of storage, on devices which can run modern games. Be it a PC, a console or a handheld. 512GB really isn't that much at all, when most AAA game install sizes these days are coming in at around 80 to 125GB. Most people now want at very least 1TB or 2TB of storage. Also as for the SSD's, the Ally X takes the common standard, larger capacity (up to 8TB) and much cheaper 2280 M.2 SSD's. While the Steam Deck takes the less common, smaller capacity (up to 2TB) and more expensive 2230 SSD's. You can pretty much buy a 2TB 2280 SSD for the Ally X for the same price that you'd pay for a 1TB 2230 SSD, for the Steam Deck.
In my opinion the steam deck is under powered. A steam deck 2 wouldn't have this problem but this first generation is seriously under powered. Buuuuuttt I won't ever discourage people from buying it because while I personally think the gen 1 steam deck is weak, i do eventually want there to be a second generation steam deck. So all of you plebs please keep buying it. Your support means that we will one day get a powerful system that I WOULD be inerested in buying. 😉👌
Very fair review for both devices. They both have their pros and cons and I think it's really a case by case situation for which device is "better" depending on who is buying it. I went with the OLED Steam Deck because it's cheaper and I already have a good gaming PC + other consoles, so I don't need top of the line handheld performance. Steam Deck is more than good enough for what I'm using it for. Also cannot be overstated how stunning the OLED screen is. For a handheld I value vibrancy and inky black levels more highly over higher resolution.
Rog Ally X is clearly the better device. BUT :) it is 1065 USD here, and the Steam Deck 512GB LCD I bought on the sale for 385 USD. I do not have so much time to game ,so I could not justify the 3 times higher price, even if I could afford it if I want to. I have a lot of different monitors here at home, I have a Ultra wide screen with VA, so it has great colors with great blacks, and with my old mans bad eyes, I do not really see a big difference in colors. Not worth the extra 300 USD that the oled would have cost me.
In my dedicated review of the OLED I actually recommend some people to buy the LCD deck unless they want the best steam deck experience possible! you can watch that video here if you like: ruclips.net/video/WY7V4yCh8v0/видео.html
Honestly it seems like everyone has a different way they game and what device they decide to buy😂 it's cool that people can pick the option that works best for them
I've been a steam deck user for years now. I purchased the ally x shortly after it came out. I ended up returning it and got the steam deck OLED instead. The ally x is a great device, but if youre a steam deck lover then it won't compare. Now to patiently wait for the steam deck 2. 😂
In Australia, now that the steam deck is officially released, it’s an extra $600 in my pocket to get a steam deck oled. At that price difference (and the fact that if I wanna play AAA games on my deck i’ll just stream them from my PC) it’s a no brainer to get the steam deck.
I have the rog ally x and I had the original ally. I honestly just dont love playing tripple AAA titles on a handheld. They are definitely playable but when I hop on my rig its just such better experience. I think for that reason if you have to have a handheld and I could go back I would probably just get a steamdeck to play indies and older games. These handhelds just arent ready for the really demanding games in my opinion. I like getting 60 fps or higher with good fidelity and you're just not gonna get that on a handheld. The rog ally is a great handheld but sometimes I wish I just went with the steam deck for a better user experience. Windows sucks on a handheld. Ill keep my rog ally x but whatever steam releases next ill probably be getting. OLED should also be the standard in screens now. My rog ally has made me lose my mind a few times with the buggy software. I dont care what anyone says it can be a buggy mess at times. For the most part it is a excellent device though.
I have a Steam Deck LCD, not even an Oled one, and honestly, I love it. Yes, the Steam Deck isn't the most powerful handheld, it never claimed to be, but this is not much of an issue for me as I can still play unsupported and needy games through remote play, which is a feature the Deck has built in it by default. So how powerful the Deck is become irrelevant, as it can use the power of a gaming computer to run everything at the maximum setting, and all the Deck has to do is to control the computer remotely and nothing else. This means that you can still run on the Deck any unsupported AAA game at the maximum graphic setting maintaining a long battery life... Cause its actually the computer that does the dirty job of running the game, not the Deck. The Steam Deck doesn't need to be the most powerful handheld to be a great handheld. It already has all it needs. P.S.: I've spent only 389€ for my 512 Gb valve certified refurbished Deck. It's just as good as a new one, but even cheaper.
The extra $150 100% worth it for the Ally X. Not just for the better hardware, but because it runs windows. It's literally a handheld PC. Steam Deck is Steam OS only. Ally X is infinitely easier to use as an emulation device.
@@SpaceShipDee Exactly. Just get the device that was designed to run windows in the first place, which was my point genius, And IF you wanna run steam big picture mode, you can do that on the Ally X.
Main problem with with ROG ALLY is hw reliability. First: my card reader stopped working. They replaced motherboard. Now both analogs suffer from drift. Got them replaced. I have 5 months of warranty left. I hope nothing goes bad in future.
I have z1 extreme model btw. Also updates are sometimes sketchy. Once, after an update my fans did not spin and ally froze and overheated. I would like to buy the Ally X. But i will rather go for steam deck oled.
Yeah that’s why I skipped the original model and got the Legion Go, then when the Ally X came out, I knew ASUS had corrected their mistakes so I got it and it’s great, can’t wait to see what the Z2 chipset will bring to the table. Next gen of these handhelds will be almost perfect, they got so many things right with the Ally X, a slightly bigger and better screen will make the Ally so much better but for a true handheld the size of their screen now makes sense for portability and power-wise. The bigger the scree, the more power it drains
I would prefer full Windows and more power. Some handhelds like ROG out perform Steamdeck while also having a full commuting experience. I think we're a generation or two away from these being perfect
I just got a really good deal on the Legion Go for $650 Brand new at Best Buy, I was supposed to get the "open box" but the salesman accidentally sold me the brand new one. SCORE!
@@technicalactivityHonestly once handhelds reach the power of a PS5, they dont even need to upgrade them anymore. I could see a steam deck 2 releasing late 2026 or early 2027 that performs between the ps4 pro and ps5, then the final one in 2032 or something which performs the same as a PS5.
I mean System is not a downside of rog neither an adventage of SD, you put 2TB SSD and make dualboot on Rog Ally Windows 11 and Bazzite OS and its perfect. And battery life is better on ROG, saying that ROG has 25W on the go and it gives same battery life as SD Oled is misleading, you can set performance to 17W or 15W and then SD stands no chance.
I had a rog Ally X, a Steam Deck OLED and the G14 4070 laptop . Ended up selling the Ally X as I don't need two portable windows devices (the g14 oled is way nicer than the Ally X) and kept the Steam Deck for something different as it runs Linux ... Plus the OLED screen on the Deck is just gorgeous for games like indies that I usually run on handheld .
I have a Steam Deck (LCD though) and I prefer gaming on streaming device. I'm rocking Logitech G Cloud for that. Playing it way more often than any other handhelds I own, although it has some flaws, one of which is non-oled screen. It just works and works good. Where PC Handhelds fall - G Cloud picks up. I don't use it for cloud gaming, doesn't have adequate ping for that, I use it with streaming games from my local PC. Comparing to the Steam Deck the main benefits are - it is a much lighter device (463 grams vs 669 grams), it has solid screen (compared to LCD version better in every way, compared to an OLED worse blacks and no HDR and only 60 Hz, but is 1080p), it has stronger battery life (10 hours on average, and doesn't depend on the game), it is as strong as your PC in terms of performance (and probably you have plenty of power for 1080p gaming). Bad parts are - of course you need to have PC connected to a WiFi (I exclude cloud gaming, your milage may vary), the input lag is kinda unnoticeable measured to approximately few frames, sometimes it is harder to first time launch game via streaming (it is not about streaming really, it's about that you have a controller not keyboard). And the last nasty part is - it's worse in controls compared to a god of ergonomics the Steam Deck - it doesn't have back buttons and trackpad, it's stick is weaker, and D-Pad is plain bad. However it feels good in hands, especially considering it's size and weight of the switch but with a better form and function. A year ago I was pleasantly surprised that local streaming is a very viable option for gaming. And now my PC handheld is just stored in a closet. Sure if you don't have PC in your flat (not the author, he has PC on the background), then it is not an option for you. But if you considering playing any modern title or can't accept 1280x800 resolution, then you should check out G Cloud. I sure there's another alternatives, although phones are 20:9 ratio which sucks, and streaming handhelds are not popular, sadly.
What made you decide this? Asking because I’m torn between buying the steam deck or ally x this week. Leaning towards simplicity of the steam deck but I’m sad I won’t be able to play game pass games on it. I know I can dual boot operating systems but that drives the price up
@@glennpenzone145sounds like you want the steam deck so get that one,or get both like me😂 but if I had to pick one longterm it be the ally x because of battery, raw power and having access too gamepass
exactly. Everybody from launch of the firstr ROG Ally is comparing every new handheld to Steam Deck, because it is the meta. You can run both Windows and SteamOS. I have got mine SD for 330 Euro and nothing can beat this value/performance so far. I also have decent Desktop and when there is game which Steam Deck cant play well and I wanna play in bed, I just stream it from the PC. Also streaming from PS5 so for me, there is no need for more powerful device, because I dont use it outside too often
I have a steamdeck oled with a dualboot configuration it runs every game I've tried flawlessly I somehow configured the steam app on Windows to override the layout so it's like having the Linux benefits without Windows drawbacks
Simple answer if u have a console Gaming or laptop gaming just buy steamdeck for emulators perfect n some game but if u have nothing just one way to play I recommend ally x or legion go
How is it same battery life? If you compare 15W vs 15W, the clear longer lasting is obvious but if you comparing 15W vs 25W then you can say its the same but that is not a fair comparison lol
@@PomuLeafEveryday For AAA title yes but less demanding games get few hours more. Eg. Tales of berseria 15W give about 3hours on the oled deck while on ally X get 5hours+
If both units uses 15watt constantly, the OLED 50wh battery will last 3.3 hours, while the Ally X will be 5.3 hours. But since the CPU might not be at 15watt all the time depending on the load in the game, it can be more . Also, my calculations do not include screen or other hardware in those numbers. A higher refreshrate means the screen will draw moer. I think the TDP setting in these devices only is for the CPU, so if you use 120hz vrr, it will use more energy than set at 30hz
A lack of VRR on the Deck is a deal breaker for me, as I play a lot of online, multiplayer shooters, and VRR is absolutely crucial to have smoother experience. Also, I prefer the asymmetrical controller set up, as the deck controllers just felt too akward to me, and caused me to screw up while playing games as the are positioned badly. The only thing I miss in the Deck is the touch pads, which are very convenient for opening and closing menus and whatnot. There is also no Xbox Gamepass on the Deck. So that's another drawback of the the handheld. Over all, the ROG Ally is the better peice of hardware, in my opinion.
I do like how large the Ally is, but I have a Legion 7i pro with a 4080 in it for COD, a ps5 for most other games, and I use my OG steam deck for travel only. PS, I wish all controllers were set up like the steam deck!
For me If a game works in both handhelds Steam deck always wins for its oled screen If it doesn’t then obviously ROG as it works better but it wouldn’t give you the same experience IF it did work on the steam deck
As a normal user, I don’t need two similar devices, since I have steam deck I have 0% interest to buy ALLY. Content creators or devices collectors don’t need to concern which one is better.
@ Does ps4 second hand market is so good? Where are gamers didn’t buy ps4 since the previous years but buying it after ps5 is released? You mean selling it as a scam?
Asus has been having ALOT of issues with the ally x as well. Alot of ppl have been reporting receiving defective devices. Their customer service is terrible too. Dont expect them to honor your warranty
I personally chose the steam deck due to the features and functions, such as track pads, 4 back paddles, stability, and its perfect for becoming a pirate if ykyk
Actually minor correction there gamepass is compatible with the deck getting it on there is actually a cake walk and Microsoft providing the instructions are the icing on the delicious cake 😋
I’m in a weird place - have a gaming laptop, ps5 and steamdeck. I don’t travel much but love playing on handheld was thinking of upgrading the steamdeck lcd but wasn’t sure if I should just wait until next gen, get a rog ally or upgrade to Oled
If I were you I’d get the cheapest option that plays the games you enjoy for the time being that way when you upgrade it won’t be painful and it will feel like a massive upgrade.
I prefer the Windows OS, so i can mod my games and have more customization overall editing, workstation etc... I dont want it to feel like a console where im locked away, same reason i have an Android i guess 😅 im not a kid to be scrolling on menus or that "ease of use", I want to tweak everything im an adult. The Ally is for Big Boys PC type of people not the Console type 💀
Exactly windows is great for gaming, just disable the startup apps that you don’t need and it will perform great. Most people download a ton of apps and don’t leave enough space for the OS to operate efficiently. Have to always leave at least 20-30 gigs of space.
To be fair Steam OS has a desktop mode which is just Linux with a desktop environment. How things are arranged file wise is different from windows, however. Still you could, with instructions/trial and error/“elbow grease”/etc, do things like mod, install emulators, even play GoG and even Epic store games via the Heroic launcher. Hell, install LibreOffice and write a novel for all I care. Not perfect, still, proton be damned even. in a sense it’s like a built in jailbreak for those who want it and know how to use it.
No cuz me too I know lots of ppl prefer the steam deck because of the console-like experience but tbh I’ve never owned a console that’s not a PlayStation and I’d honestly feel much too locked in terms of what I can do and the games I can play because it is linux after all and some games I play often like hsr, I wouldn’t be able to play Plus I’ve also grown up with windows like all my life so I’m quite familiar with it
Oh yeah I agree the price is a bit high. Would only advise you jump to it right now before a sale is if you are looking for the best of the best of the best available right now.

Dude you talking like SteamOS was here since the dawn of time. "I will always prefer Steam OS over it.." Steam OS is still new and the reason why a lot of games are not supported. I also don't understand why everyone talk about ROG Ally like it takes you hours to boot up a game. "You can turn the device on, click your game and you're already gaming..." So, you're telling me you can't do that with Armour crate?. Most people have it in sleep mode I've grab it plenty of times with a button press I'm gaming. Let's keep it real and tell everyone they can have what steam deck has via Bazzite if your into it. Or just play it as is. For the past few years everyone been complaining about how garbage and useless HDR is. Then say VRR is what you need, but now that it comes to Steam Deck it's up to what you prefer.
It seems like it’s a easy decision if you got a large steam catalog, get the steam deck if you wanna play your game pass games get the ally. Personally, I don’t use steam so the ally it is for me.
You can also get steam games on windows. Just download them and you have the game icon on the desktop. Then you just have to press your finger on the game and it will start. It's very simple.
Wait what i saw online shopping was rog ally way more cheaper than steam deck,i want steamdeck because it can custom built but its too expensive for me.. Rog ally was half price of steam deck (thanks to 52%discount) thats why im going to rog ally. and i like windows version because it can play more games. Battery will be no problem for me i have huge battery backup.
I’ve been saving up, and I could save longer for an oled. But I’ll just for the used lcd version. It’s good enough for the games I want to play on the deck. Can’t wait! I’ll play the more demanding games on pc.
Easy to for say performed rog ally win 100% But if you only play simple games not triple a game so steamdeck is a lot you right choice easier and can play longer
The audio of the steam deck sound better to me, the rog ally x audio sounds a bit weaker like adding a cheap speaker into a large cabin/housing at full volume. It's loud but lack the bass and treble that is needed to resonate. Then again my own ears are not that great. 😂
I did exactly that :) Had SD for almost 2 years now, and 5 days ago got Ally X.... Since I used SD mostly docked with 2 wireless x box controllers, I plan the same with Ally. But the possibilities with ally are much more than SD. So I plan on dualboot bazzite and windows, to get best of both worlds :)
I have one question if I’m just using it for modern games switch ps5 and maybe even ps3 is the stead deck enough? Someone please give me an answer .. also how long will a stead deck last me while I play those type of games
When i was looking into buying i was trying to decide between steam deck and rog ally. Eventually I decided on the oled steam deck cuz of the battery the battery on the rog ally didnt seem great and felt like that kinda went against the purpose of a handheld pc. Then the ally x came out and that things battery is tank from what ive seen but for the price of it like what $800 id rather just put that money into my actual desktop. Im really excited to see what asus and valve do with there successor systems.
I actually went on reddit and found someone talking about this but i did that and it doesn’t sound nearly as full sounding as the original ally’s speakers still
I actually own a steam deck oled, and I like so much that it has become my go to console over my series X and Nintendo Switch. I’m actually on the fence about picking up the Rog ally X, yes it’s more powerful than the steam deck oled, but I don’t know if I can deal with a smaller screen with no oled, hdr and track pads. And yes I actually use the track pads for some games, and dragging files for emulation.
I like Trackpads as well especially if you use trackpad-gyro when playing fps games it's sounds gimmicky but it's the 2nd best way to play fps games if you get the hang of it.
I like how the X lets you use the thumb stick as the mouse cursor, trackpads always have felt weird to me, I even hate using em on laptops. I get using them in some games but on my steam deck I have rarely ever used the trackpads and not that I have an Ally I thought that I would miss it for some reason but I haven’t missed having a trackpad at all. I love the Ally X fr, I use it every day, makes gaming so convenient.
Which handheld do you think is best?🤔
Also I made an error by saying RDNA3.5 when it should be RDNA3

Still rocking my launch ROG Ally but the battery life is what kills it. I would love the OLED screen, but i want the performance and Game Pass ability. If you could mash the Steam Deck OLED and Ally X together for an affordable price, I'd be in!
Bro you can dual boot steam Os on the ally look into it man lots of tutorials on line.
So on average how long would the ally last you?
@@meric12131415 With most modern games about an hour unplugged. Usually I play with a power supply nearby so it didn't affect me all that much, but I do bring it to work on occasion when there's down time and having to find a spot to plug in is annoying.
@@infernaltim 🤣 I can imagine
Well, technically you can use Game Pass on the Steam Deck if you boot into Windows (assuming you can’t from browsers on Linux for whatever reason, I personally haven’t tried)
The VRR and 120 hz on the ROG is a huge selling point for me. Even after upgrading my phone recently the refresh rate was the first thing I noticed.
Absolutely. I’ve been preaching that this is the new power race! Efficiency 🔥
@@panda-monium2248 Oh hell yeah, we love good god damn deals. Congrats dude

Try the onexfly
Just get it from Best Buy any warranty issue Best Buy would take care of it that’s why I have no issue with getting the ally x been loving mines for the past two months though I still have my steam deck and love it but usually just for emulation

Steam Deck OLED all day. Overall better value, better operating system, comes with a case, has OLED, slightly bigger screen, battery life is great, HDR, I won’t missing the extra pixels. I don’t need to play COD on a handheld.
Got my PS5 for that.
Playing cod on a handheld with SBMM is hell for me but I also don’t game with a controller anymore 😂
Everything is better on the Ally X. It has VRR and the battery life is insane
@technicalactivity Plus you can install bazzite and essentially get all the benefits that steam os has, ive personally got a dual boot 4tb drive with windows and its fantastic

Steamdeck OLED starts at £450, Ally X starts £750
So more like £300 difference. Most people wpuld be happy with 512gb.. if not you can upgrade to 1 or 2tb for less than valve charges with a spare drive to boot
thats UK every market is different.
ROG ALLY X for me. I just bought mine.
Deck >>>>> Ally
I own Deck LCD and Ally X.
Steam Deck it is (for me)
I have the rog ally x and I had the original ally.
This is such a valid comment! Thank you for taking the time to add your personal insight! I left a heart on it, in hopes that others see it!
Have you tried installing bazzite to dual boot your system
ROG Ally X 1 month of ownership squeaky trigger buttons and right trigger button already completely dead. On my second one now.
Sorry to hear you’re having problems with it for the price you payed you deserve better
Welcome to the Asus universe
You can easily install Windows on a Steam Deck. In fact, Valve offers the required windows drivers as free downloads in their website
You can run Windows on the deck just like you can run steamOS on the Ally, but doing so on the deck makes it worse in every way.
@@SpaceShipDee Exactly. Just get the device that was designed to run windows in the first place, which was my point genius, And IF you wanna run steam big picture mode, you can do that on the Ally X.
SteamOS ftw. The amount of updates that they push alone is just bonkers, and the number of Deck verified games is growing everyday.
Agreed on the 2nd half of your comment. I need Microsoft to step up their software game tho before we get that generation
I just got a really good deal on the Legion Go for $650 Brand new at Best Buy, I was supposed to get the "open box" but the salesman accidentally sold me the brand new one. SCORE!
Was gonna grab an Ally X but realized it would be a mistake since the next gen graphics chips are about to come out....
Yeahh Z2 Extreme is likely coming in early 2025
Still worth it , you will probably see the next gen graphics cost $1000
I’m selling my ROG ally X for $700 along with the new JSAUX case.
I want to go back to steam deck .
What made you decide this? Asking because I’m torn between buying the steam deck or ally x this week. Leaning towards simplicity of the steam deck but I’m sad I won’t be able to play game pass games on it. I know I can dual boot operating systems but that drives the price up
@@glennpenzone145sounds like you want the steam deck so get that one,or get both like me😂 but if I had to pick one longterm it be the ally x because of battery, raw power and having access too gamepass
why do you treat the steamdeck like something that can't run windows?
That’s sick!
Simple answer if u have a console Gaming or laptop gaming just buy steamdeck for emulators perfect n some game but if u have nothing just one way to play I recommend ally x or legion go
I have to ask.. what were the optimal settings you used for RE4 Remake on the ROG Ally X?
This video is so informative!! Thank youuuu
How is it same battery life? If you compare 15W vs 15W, the clear longer lasting is obvious but if you comparing 15W vs 25W then you can say its the same but that is not a fair comparison lol
Yeah you can get like another 40-60 minutes with the ROG Ally X at the same tdp as the Steam Deck
OLED Display takes less power There are more facts Than only the SOC power

……. I wish we could upgrade our processing power on the steam deck… that be swell…. And a money saver. And it can be number one on all categories.
I do like how large the Ally is, but I have a Legion 7i pro with a 4080 in it for COD, a ps5 for most other games, and I use my OG steam deck for travel only. PS, I wish all controllers were set up like the steam deck!
For me
If a game works in both handhelds
Steam deck always wins for its oled screen
If it doesn’t then obviously ROG as it works better but it wouldn’t give you the same experience IF it did work on the steam deck
I relate to this logic
pass on windows handhelds, steam deck when we getting our upgraded version =) make it upgradeable and perfection....
As a normal user, I don’t need two similar devices, since I have steam deck I have 0% interest to buy ALLY. Content creators or devices collectors don’t need to concern which one is better.
yeah i think this is aimed at people who own neither and are considering buying one device...
You can always sell one and buy a better one. I think a lot of "normal" users did the same with the PS4/PS5. They sold their PS4 and bought the PS5.
Unless you bought it in Australia or any other country with strong consumer protection laws.
I personally chose the steam deck due to the features and functions, such as track pads, 4 back paddles, stability, and its perfect for becoming a pirate if ykyk
I absolutely love my Ally X. I'm going with pc hanehelds from now on. This runs everything I want well.
Actually minor correction there gamepass is compatible with the deck getting it on there is actually a cake walk and Microsoft providing the instructions are the icing on the delicious cake 😋
Steam Deck overall, but as a second handheld the Rog X is solid.
@KillerCam 1020 which would you recommend if i play WoW or Diablo 4 97% of time.
I don’t wanna spend $800 on a handheld, I love my steamdeck
1tb is 649 at best buy right now

No cuz me too
I know lots of ppl prefer the steam deck because of the console-like experience but tbh I’ve never owned a console that’s not a PlayStation and I’d honestly feel much too locked in terms of what I can do and the games I can play because it is linux after all and some games I play often like hsr, I wouldn’t be able to play
Plus I’ve also grown up with windows like all my life so I’m quite familiar with it
Waiting on an rog with an Oled
ally x is great , but the price is off-putting. I bought Legion Go for the half of X's price
Oh yeah I agree the price is a bit high. Would only advise you jump to it right now before a sale is if you are looking for the best of the best of the best available right now.

How did you get that darth Vader background on the ally X? please
4:26 how did u do it on Steamdeck? i don't like to use Decky Loader as its a hassle everytime a new Steam OS update almost bricks my unit
They should add an option to change the wattage or the Z1 extreme in two phases the CPU portion and the GPU portion.
Asus definitely is the best handheld and you could install Linux. If money is no object l will pick the Asus an any day.
Im still very happy with my og Lcd steam deck. Its so fking comfy and having basicly instand access to my whole linrary of games is just super convenient. Yea it sucks that the anticheat on some games does not work but thats something those devs need to change.
And if you have any respect for yourself then get steam deck too, unless you want to have to deal with warranty telling you that a 0.5mm scratch invalidates your right for free repairs.
I'm not making this up
$300 (LCD) vs $800... yeah, I think I know where I am going.
The original z1 extreme with 512 gb costs 500$. You shouldn't compare the cheapest version from a system to the most expensive version from a system.
I love the Deck and it’s my choice. I’m a sound engineer and the Asus is much better sounding.
Both great consoles let's just appreciate then both
Dude you talking like SteamOS was here since the dawn of time.
X > Deck imo
It seems like it’s a easy decision if you got a large steam catalog, get the steam deck if you wanna play your game pass games get the ally. Personally, I don’t use steam so the ally it is for me.
You can also get steam games on windows. Just download them and you have the game icon on the desktop. Then you just have to press your finger on the game and it will start. It's very simple.
Ally (x) for AAA
Steam Deck for Emulation and Old School Games
Wait what i saw online shopping was rog ally way more cheaper than steam deck,i want steamdeck because it can custom built but its too expensive for me.. Rog ally was half price of steam deck (thanks to 52%discount) thats why im going to rog ally. and i like windows version because it can play more games. Battery will be no problem for me i have huge battery backup.
Ally x is the best. Not a comparison depends how much dough you have
Have the og Ally , bought a Legion Go four months, now only the steam deck oled is missing from the big three...
I’ll wait until the next gen handhelds come out cause I know the current ones will be discounted in price
I’ve been saving up, and I could save longer for an oled. But I’ll just for the used lcd version. It’s good enough for the games I want to play on the deck. Can’t wait! I’ll play the more demanding games on pc.
For me it's 570 EUR vs 900 EUR so 330 EUR (360 USD) difference
Easy to for say performed rog ally win 100%
But if you only play simple games not triple a game so steamdeck is a lot you right choice easier and can play longer
The audio of the steam deck sound better to me, the rog ally x audio sounds a bit weaker like adding a cheap speaker into a large cabin/housing at full volume. It's loud but lack the bass and treble that is needed to resonate.
Then again my own ears are not that great. 😂
I already own the steam deck but is the ROG ally X worth buying to ?
I did exactly that :) Had SD for almost 2 years now, and 5 days ago got Ally X.... Since I used SD mostly docked with 2 wireless x box controllers, I plan the same with Ally. But the possibilities with ally are much more than SD. So I plan on dualboot bazzite and windows, to get best of both worlds :)
I have one question if I’m just using it for modern games switch ps5 and maybe even ps3 is the stead deck enough? Someone please give me an answer .. also how long will a stead deck last me while I play those type of games
What about which one is more future proof ?
I actually mention this in my conclusion!
Just dual boot SteamOS on the Ally X via Bazzite....Why chose an OS?
working on a video on that
When i was looking into buying i was trying to decide between steam deck and rog ally.
Rdna 3 not 3.5
Thank you for correcting my error hearting this so others see it. Got confused with strix point which I’ve been looking into heavily lately.
Rog Ally X's extra ram is nice.
the speakers sound 'muted' or quieter because you didn't change the sound profile in dolby atmos
I actually went on reddit and found someone talking about this but i did that and it doesn’t sound nearly as full sounding as the original ally’s speakers still
I think Steam Deck sound is much better.
9:55 haha those thumbs be moving
Steam deck Oled is the best handheld console, LOVE IT ❤
What theme is that on the steam deck
It’s from decky I centered the UI and rounded the corners and added the art bleed for the background
