For the car connoisseur | The coolest and most unusual cars, reviews, topics and lifestyle.
You may know me from the RUclips channel Mr Darcy & The Ol’ Man, where we review motorcycles, but you may not know that I also have a huge passion for cars.
It didn’t feel right to start posting car content on our motorcycle channel, hence the birth of this new channel, ‘Darcy’s Drive’ where you can expect to see car reviews, topics, and discussions. All filmed beautifully, and in stunning locations.
Thanks for dropping by,
Darcy.

My Friend Bought an E46 M3 at 22 Years Old!
My friend James just bought this BMW E46 M3. In this video we delve into what got him thinking about this car and why he ended up making the purchase.
Having previously owned an E46 330ci he was worried that the M3 wouldn't feel like enough of an upgrade but he was pleasantly surprised. We go into detail on the way this car feels to drive, the analogue nature, the looks, the sound, and upgrades, the common issues and problems, and the costs especially from a young drivers perspective.

This Loophole Could HALF Your Car Tax!
Просмотров 62 тыс.День назад
I found a massive Loophole In UK road tax! I recently bought this 2005 Jaguar XJR, I found out when I viewed it that the car had been imported from Japan! Japanese imports are taxed in a different way to UK cars, in this video I explain how it works, and also go into detail on how much this car cost to insure at 22 years old.
UNREAL SuperCharger Sound! I Fitted a Stage 1 Intake to My Jaguar XJR
Просмотров 8 тыс.14 дней назад
Today I fit a Caldoofy stage 1 supercharger intake to my 2005 x350 Jaguar XJR, This makes a massive improvement in the sound of the supercharger whine, but also should give an extra 15-20hp. let me know what you think! it's such a rare and unusual sound and I absolutely love it!
Why I Bought a 2005 JAG XJR at 22 Years Old
Просмотров 38 тыс.21 день назад
We are finally back! And today I dive into why I bought this 20 year old Jaguar XJR X350 4.2l Supercharger V8! Years ago my father had an XJ6 and at the time I hated it for being an old mans car. but now I think they loo fantastic but I wanted something with a bit more power and torque. so what better car than the XJR!
NEW 2023 Kia Ceed Review | a Family Car With a bit of Spice [GT Line S]
Просмотров 15 тыс.11 месяцев назад
This week the wonderful people at Kia kindly lent me this Kia Ceed GT Line S. I have been using it as my daily driver for the whole week. In this video I go into detail as to what this car is like to drive, practicality, handling, braking, interior, features and more. It's safe to say that this car is very good, this was the DCT version which is surprisingly slightly slower 0-60mph, wonder why?...
The Best Sports Car For Under £15K? BMW M235i Review | A Budget M2 Alternative!
Просмотров 17 тыс.11 месяцев назад
Could this be the best sports car for Under £15,000? I've owned this BMW M235i for a year now and have done over 10k miles in the car so I pretty much know the car inside out. In this video I go into detail on the handling, performance, fuel economy, interior and just about everything you'll want to know before buying one of these cars. #BMW #m235i
Pre 2006 tax is more like £320
Had a convertible for 4 years and had wanted an(y) e46 m3 for a very long time before that. And......I just never got on with it. I'd owned a 330ci so I knew the platform well. I just didn't enjoy the engine at all. That 340hp isn't really accessible. 8k rpm is mid 30s in 1st and 70mph in 2nd. So to ever feel the 340hp you either drive in first/second gear or do prison speeds in 3rd or 4th.
You haven't found a loophole, it's a regulation that has been law for 20 years, I have been importing American cars for years and taxing them at a reduced rate compared to official U.K cars
Im sorry what ur 22 ?
Yes I’m 22
This kid has better taste than most lads his age to go with this is very very cool. Modern classic. Loved my e46 m3. Don’t sell it hang onto it. I regretted selling mine. I have a 911 turbo s. But I turn my head every time I see an e46 m3 still
Old is gold
ANY CAR registered before 23 March 2006 is cheaper - the 'usual rate' on this, or ANY pre 23 March 2006 registered car is and will/would be £415/year .
Yes that’s true, but this is a separate loop hole. Regardless of whether my car is before or after 2006 it would still be £345 to tax
@@DarcysdriveIt's not really a loophole it's very common knowledge. But good video
Brought myself a s type at 18 loved it replaced it with a xfs would love another s type
Owned one for 7yrs now, they are a labour of love at this age now £££
James has great taste in cars. I currently own an E92 M3 with a manual gearbox which i love and which looks great but I think the E46 M3 is the best looking M3.
Road tax should be based on the weight of a vehicle not based on emissions.
Lovely car😎 Leamington spa, I was born there (84) small world😁
I owned a 2004 silver on black XJR and loved it!
It’s because it’s an ‘05 If it was an ‘06 (post March) the tax would be hundreds more Every MOT test is subject to a an emissions check and has been for years.
Too much repetitive content. All that info could have be said in 2 mins ⚠️ And the fact yours is registered before March 06 which is why the VED is cheap, nowt to do with Jap import ⚠️ My 2003 SL55 AMG is only £340 to Tax and 500bhp makes it epic value 😎
I've got 2 dream cars, the E46 M3 and the 350Z
A brilliant car my favourite M3 Great video Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
Big mistake.. period. Unless he comes from $$$$ family, this car will bankrupt him
How exactly?
I bought one of these when I was 25 back in 2003 carbon black smg and it blew my mind ......had the brains to get rid of it after a year back then as it's a game of percentages whether it gets crashed , major mechanical failure etc etc......not gonna lie but it gave plenty of dash lights faults but I think that's BMWs in general 😅
I owned E46 M3 LCI for 2 year's had vanos changed apart from that a masterpiece of BMW engineering, swapped it for E92 M3 2013 1 of 500 limited edition sounds awesome but not that quick only produce 380bhp, now I own f82 m4 2015 running 560bhp and its very quick how an M car should be loads of torque, quality video by the way 🔥🔥🔥
So glad you explained the CSL style upgrades. I really like them on this car. Perfect looks with a manual knob. Dream spec. Loving your mate, James, too. Proper enthusiast!
Glad you liked it! Yes he really is, needs to start his own channel!
Halve, not half.
Smart choice ! Brother 👍 😊
E46 M3 is the ultimate M3 . Timeless classy design that just never ages , ridiculous lines , so beautiful . Exhaust sound amazing and the interior build and material quality is second to none . I drive a 2006 MK V VW GTI with the same attributes as this stunning M3 , great build quality , great power for what it is and an absolutely bangin daily driver . These older German cars are total sleepers and if you can find a real nice one like this that has been well maintained they just never age and are incredibly comfortable. I don't winter drive my GTI so it is immaculate, my daily driver is a 7.5 Golf Alltrack with a 6 spd manual which is also supremely comfortable but the MK V is just as nice . I love in Canada so need the all wheel drive for the crazy winter weather. Awesome car brother .
i wish i could afford this i need to do what this 22 year old is doing lol
He’s working in sound design for games 😊
Where I can but that pipe mate ? Great channel 👍
Thank you! I bought it on eBay www.ebay.co.uk/itm/235750398590?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=sWSBAPGKToy&sssrc=4429486&ssuid=1-pars4prwi&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Yeah its a 06 tax much dearer, pain
£715 p/a?
I own a 2004 model, crazy the tax difference just due to years.
My twin turbo Legacy is surprisingly cheap too. I suppose this is why.
Welcome to the M3 dream brother 👍🏻
Oh dear! Not another BMW that’s really tedious.
That's two videos! There is going to be a variety of cars on this channel, you can just not watch the BMW ones.
you need to get to the point on your videos because y u waffle on and it makes the videos boring.... and try to talk normal instead of the stuttering that is stupid too.
I suspect you didn't help the sound in your XJR by going with a cheap BT. I got myself the BT-adapter from Jagaux, and it sounds great. (But my car's got the Alpine premium sound.)
I am thinking, wouldn't it be nice to do these with two cars? I.e. you following/recording the car from your XJR? Unless you wanna keep the odometer low, of course. Also you would have a reference for the XJR, like "I couldn't keep up with you" or "I could actually keep up with your car with ease." Cheers
I wanted this one to be a personal chat in my friends car about his BMW 👍🏼
@@Darcysdrive Understood. Having the conversation would be possible still, but admittedly technically more complicated. 👍🏻
Hello from France. Congratulations for this video that presents very well a wonderful Jaguar XJR, very elegant, with a real soul. A dream on the road. It is still the stunning car that it was 20 years ago. Enjoy it !
Thank you 😊
not a bad sounding exhaust, nice interior though!
Excellent video chaps! Very classy car and enlightening that the younger drivers seek such interesting and classic cars ❤️
Awesome video guys, you both have such passion for classic fast cars 👍🏼
Thank you! 👍
I had one of these, and it was a wolf in sheep’s clothing with refinement. As an ex-XKR driver I was told by Jaguar this was the best car they made at that time…bargin
The highest benefit of a Japanese import is they have way stricter MOT requirements. Also they have 65mph/110kmh speed limit, which guarantees the cars are immaculate compared to UK average. It saves you thousands on future repairs. Do not buy anything from Hokkaido, they are the only of the islands, using salt on the roads
Whatever you’ve saved on taxing it you’re gonna spent 10 times as much keeping a Jaguar road worthy 😂😂😂
I couldn’t care less 😁
Hi, can I, ask is it ulez exempt
I guess not because no emissions data on the V5C
I owned a Jap imported 1992 RX7 for 13 years from 2001. It was never exempt from emissions tests. As it UK identifier wasn't in the testers handbook, it would default to a less stringent general emissions test but a CO test was required.
I'll stick with the 1.5tdci mondeo. Free tax.
Darcy, Japanese import so right hand drive bonus there, but is the speedo in km/h? Is it just an option to display in mph? XK8 owner so I'm not familiar with the XJR
Luckily they also do MPH in Japan 🇯🇵
At any age cars are cars, I had a Rolls Royce silver shadow at 26 and ran for 3 and a half years.😊 Jags are gorgeous I had a s type and it was awesome 😊😊😊😊😊😊
Very cool! You have great taste 😁
Jaaaaag
Brilliant video and insight into this type of saving … beautiful car good luck with her …. I imported two retired Ford crown Victoria 4.6 V8 police interceptors from dry state areas of the USA … one just over ten years old , so only a MOT which included basic light conversion … the other under ten years old , so needed the additional IVA test ( Individual Vehicle Approval ) costing £200 … this took about 15 mins , and especially as vehicle had just passed standard MOT ( on VIN number) with light conversion, it seemed more of a formality money making event , but I needed this hand written certificate to register the vehicle . Both vehicles were only £246 a year road tax . Several mots since registering , and although they document the emissions on mot , tax stays the same .
I've got a 1996 3.0l turbo-diesel Toyota Surf, which is a 'grey import' as it lived the first 8 years of its life in Japan. I've owned it for 20 years! My road-tax is £345 this year. For 5 years, my full-comp insurance was £160/yr. This year it jumped £100. I also added a bolt-on £20k accident cover to the 3rd party only cover, for when I drive other vehicles e.g. my sister's Audi TT, my brother's Range Rover. That cost £24 for the year (cheaper than a single day's cover for an additional vehicle added!). I'm over 60.
Insurance is a scam, that's why
Fuck me ive turned off, couldn't listen to you waffling on & on & on!!!
